Unique Opportunity for Year 10 Students

The University of Adelaide, in partnership with Rotary International and Siemens, will again be providing 100, Year 10 students with a unique opportunity to discover where their interests and talents lie in science and technology.

The students will benefit from the now annual three-day Siemens Science Experience that starts tomorrow and ends on Thursday. A series of workshops and a range of activities will be held across the North Terrace Campus tomorrow and Wednesday. The students will then spend Thursday at Roseworthy.

The science experience involves numerous activities enabling the scholars to discover the diverse and amazing career opportunities to which the study of science can lead. It is organised by the University of Adelaide's Faculties of Sciences, Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences.

"The Siemens Science Experience offers our next generation of scientists a great opportunity to experience university life and to discover new research being undertaken in the world of science and technology," says Professor Peter Rathjen, Executive Dean, Faculty of Sciences.

"In addition, the students will be provided with information about study options and career opportunities which will better prepare them for the subjects they take in their final years at school."

The students also spend a day at the University's Roseworthy Campus. Roseworthy is an internationally renowned centre for excellence in dry land agriculture, natural resource management and animal science. With a range of government and corporate partners, the campus is home to a number of collaborative centres.

Some of the talks and presentations include a multifaceted study into animal skulls, exploring the fundamental structure of the universe, robotics and problem solving for engineers and scientists.
