Monday, 15 March 2004 Alleged Australian al-Qaeda terrorist David Hicks will be the subject of a Round Table discussion at the University of Adelaide on Wednesday at 5:15pm in Lecture Theatre 102, Napier Building, Level 1. The keynote speaker is Major Michael Mori, US Marine Corp Defense Counsel for Hicks. Sponsored by the South Australian Council for Civil Liberties, the Round Table's title is: "David Hicks, Civil Liberties and the War on Terror." Hicks, an Adelaide man, was captured by the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan in early December 2001 while travelling with Taliban soldiers who were defending their territory from the Northern Alliance. He has yet to be charged with any crime in Australia or Afghanistan. The Round Table is being chaired by Mr George Mancini, Chair, SA Council for Civil Liberties. The panellists are Mr Stephen Kenny, SA Defense Counsel for Hicks and Dr Anthony Burke, School of History and Politics, University of Adelaide. |
