Friday, 9 May 2014

The University of Adelaide's The Braggs building took the top award at last night's Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall South Australian Development of the Year Awards.

The South Australian awards, held in the lead up to the national Innovation and Excellence Awards, showcased leading practice in the property development and investment industry.

Home of the University's Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) and other teaching and research laboratories, The Braggs won the prestigious title of South Australian Development of the Year.

"The Braggs is a microcosm of South Australian ingenuity. By bringing our brightest minds under one roof, the building has become a magnet for talent and innovative thinking," says Property Council Executive Director Richard Angove.

The Braggs houses a unique suite of laboratories and teaching facilities including a 420-seat lecture theatre.

The philosophy behind the building's design is to enable collaboration between researchers from different disciplines and expose budding science students to a transdisciplinary approach to learning and research.

Rider Levett Bucknall Managing Director Peter Tulla congratulated the University of Adelaide for its exceptional achievement.

"The building is another step in elevating Adelaide's reputation for world-class education and continues the University of Adelaide's endeavours to deliver high quality learning and research spaces for their staff, students and researchers," says Peter Tulla.

All South Australian finalists are in the running for the national category awards and the coveted Australian Development of the Year Award. The national Innovation and Excellence Awards will be held in Sydney on Saturday 17 May.
