Adelaide PhD students among Young Achiever Award winners

Two brilliant and hard-working University of Adelaide PhD students have been named among the winners at the 2016 Channel Nine Young Achiever Awards.

Highly talented and dedicated tutor and PhD student Jasmin Parasiers was the winner of the Australian Super, Career Kick Start Award, and brilliant chemotherapy researcher Hannah Wardill won the University of Adelaide Faculty of Sciences, Science and Technology Award.

The Awards were presented at an elaborate gala dinner at the Hilton Adelaide on Saturday 12 March.

Jasmin Parasiers is the founder of Intuition Tutoring Services and has been tutoring students for the past eight years. In addition to running her own business, Jasmin is completing a PhD in History at the University of Adelaide and works full time as a Research Project Coordinator.

Ms Parasiers has been elected the Secretary of the Association of Secondary Research Teachers and works heavily in assessment leadership. In 2014, she was a winner in the Anthill Magazine’s 2014 Young Entrepreneur 30 Under 30 Award.

Hannah Wardill is currently completing her PhD in Medicine, focusing on some of the most debilitating side effects associated with cancer treatments. She has been invited to visit international research laboratories and presents her work at international cancer research symposiums.

Ms Wardill was invited to the University of California, San Diego to present her most recent research at the Biomedical Research Facility. She has published extensively and has received extensive media exposure.

Ms Wardill’s research has the real potential to positively impact the clinical outcomes for cancer patients.

There were a further 11 alumni and current students recognised as finalists at the Awards, including Harshani Jayasinghe, Ilyasi Siraji, Michael Watkins, Zaachariaha Fielding, Cicy Li, Emma Kelly, Jacqueline Foster, Mercedes Page, Nicholas Banks, Katharina Richter and Alexander Hill.
