Future of the Desert Knowledge CRC

Thursday, 17 November 2005

The Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre (DK-CRC), established in mid-2003, has seven years to make significant progress towards a vibrant desert knowledge economy in inland Australia. This national research network links Indigenous and local knowledge with science and education to improve desert livelihoods.

Ms Jan Ferguson, the new Managing Director of the Desert Knowledge CRC, will speak at an information session on the "Future of the Desert Knowledge CRC" on Tuesday, 22 November 2005 at 10.30am in the Ira Raymond Room, Barr Smith Library.

Staff and students are invited to attend the session on the CRC's future directions, which aim to increase inland Australia's self reliance, promote regional networks, and contribute to the sustainable prosperity and livelihoods of all remote desert inhabitants, in particular Indigenous Australians.

Jan Ferguson has held senior management roles in several large South Australian infrastructure departments prior to her appointment to the CRC. Jan is also a previous winner of the Telstra Businesswomen's Award for her innovative approaches to public sector reform and has a strong record of engaging with Aboriginal communities.

Anyone wishing to attend the session or seeking further information should contact Dr Nicole Morcom, 8303 3388 from Adelaide Research and Innovation - Research Branch by Monday, 21 November.
