Friday, 12 November 1999 The first ever scholarship named in honour of the late Don Dunstan has now been announced, providing a major study opportunity at Adelaide University. The inaugural Don Dunstan Foundation Postgraduate Research Scholarship - valued at more than $16,000 per year - is aimed at supporting a full-time student who will undertake research towards a Masters degree or a PhD. Support will be available for up to two years for a Masters degree student or up to three years for a PhD student. Applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent resident status, hold an Honours degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, and be acceptable as candidates for a postgraduate research degree at Adelaide University. The research area must be relevant to the aims of the Foundation. The Honourable Don Dunstan QC AC was a Member of the House of Assembly from 1953 to 1979 and former Premier of South Australia. He inspired a generation of Australians with his commitment to the ideals and values of a just society. The Don Dunstan Foundation has been established to foster research and education on a broad range of social development issues. The scholarship hopes to continue Dunstan's vision by enabling research into social issues and helping to create a better and fairer society for us all.
