The new breed of South Australian guitar talent will take their playing to a whole new level in the second of this year's Guitarissimo concert series, to be held on Tuesday 11 December at 6.30pm.
Guitarissimo is the only event of its kind in Australia, giving up-and-coming musical talent from the University of Adelaide's Elder Conservatorium of Music the chance to gain valuable professional development and performance experience twice a year.
Their last performance for 2007 will feature a "Concerto Marathon" including guitar concertos by Rodrigo (Concierto de Aranjuez), Tedesco and Brouwer as well as other works.
Acclaimed Australian pianist Benjamin Martin will also perform some solo piano works, and will accompany guitarist Jody Fisher.
Up-and-coming pianists Ann Lee and Marianna Grynchuk will accompany the other guitar soloists, Ben Brakenridge and Andrey Lebedev.
All of the guitarists in the program are students of Oliver Fartach-Naini , an internationally renowned German guitarist who is lecturing at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
"We created Guitarissimo early last year to offer new opportunities to student guitarists, who don't have as many chances as some of their counterparts to gain real performance experience," Mr Fartach-Naini says.
"The concert series has grown in popularity with each subsequent performance. This is extremely beneficial for our rising stars of Australian classical guitar - they are learning from the experience and gaining a steadily growing audience."
