An examination of the current state of play between tertiary education and the petroleum industry kicks off a new series of free weekly public lectures by University of Adelaide professors, starting tomorrow (Thursday, May 2).

The popular Inaugural Lecture series [1] features professors recently appointed to the university, speaking about the latest developments in their areas of expertise.

Director of the University's National Centre for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Professor John Kaldi, will give tomorrow's lecture, entitled Upstream of Upstream: Preparing Professionals for the Petroleum Industry. It will be held in the University's Council Room, Level 7, Wills Building, from 1.10pm.

Professor Kaldi will examine the challenge universities such as Adelaide face: supplying adequate numbers of well-trained students to meet the opportunities being provided by rapidly developing technologies in the fields of petroleum geoscience and petroleum engineering.

Forthcoming lectures will examine such diverse topics as physics and climate change, the human brain, and cancer treatment. Media are welcome to attend.
