Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Australia are disadvantaged
in terms of oral health. This publication provides a summary of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander child oral health using information from the Child
Dental Health Survey, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children and
Receipt of Hospital Dental Care Investigation and the Study of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Child Oral Health in Remote Communities.

The survey aimed to describe levels of oral disease, perceptions of oral health
and patterns of dental care within a representative cross-section of adults in
all states and
territories of Australia.

This workshop presented state/territory findings for 29 measures of oral disease,
dental care and oral health perceptions:
- comparisons between eight states/territories
- comparisons within states/territories of three age groups and six
socio-demographic groups.

The Child Dental Health Survey is an ongoing cross-sectional study which collects
data of the oral health status of Australian children in all states and territories.
Data for the report are derived from examinations of children enrolled in the
School Dental Services in each Australian state and territory.
