Research has shown that the risk of Periodontal disease(Eg:gum disease) is higher among those who have smoked before or are currently smoking compared to non-smokers and increases from former to moderate to heavy smokers. In Australia, about 32% of moderate to severe periodontitis can be attributed directly to smoking.
