Multicultural Week 2002 - Unity in Diversity
Multicultural Week, known affectionately as M-Week, is an event the Overseas Students Association (OSA) stages annually. It is a celebration of the University of Adelaides cultural diversity, which has matured and grown since the first international students arrived at the University following the Second World War. M-Week is a high profile event that provides an opportunity for people from all over the world to share their cultures with others through a combination of daily food stalls, cultural and artistic performances, exhibitions and national costume fashion parades. Well in excess of one thousand people attend M-Week events daily. The 2002 event was the tenth M-Week, and the theme was 'Unity in Diversity'. The OSA chose this theme to highlight the multicultural composition of Australian society, whose members migrated to Australia from over 180 different countries. Despite such diverse ethnic roots, everybody is united as members of Australias multicultural population. The week witnessed a wide range of food and cultural performances. Cuisine was available from countries such as Ethiopia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Mexico, and there were cultural performances from countries in Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as an Australian indigenous performer. The OSA hopes that all those who attended enjoyed the event, and we hope to see you again in 2003 for a larger and even more vibrant M-Week!
