Alternative Pathways
Humanities and Social Sciences

For applicants wishing to gain entry into the following programs:

The Bachelor of Arts (B.Arts) program is considered to be a valid pathway into any of these.

With the exception of the Bachelor of Media, students wishing to gain entry into specialised degrees may take the core courses required for those programs, as part of the B.Arts first year (Level 1).

Suggested Action Plan

  1. Put your 'dream' degree program as your first preference.
  2. Consider adding the B.Arts program as your next preference.
  3. Enrol in courses that can count towards your 'dream' program.
  4. Apply for an internal transfer (selection will be based on your University Grade Point Average after completing one full-time semester, or you can use your ATAR for up to two years).

For applicants who wish to gain entry into Music bachelor degree programs but are not offered a place, they may wish to apply for a VET music program. There are some possibilities for gaining entry into a bachelor degree on completion of these programs. For further information about this pathway, please view the Elder Conservatorium of Music webpages.

TAFE SA Pathways

TAFE SA courses, from Cert IV and above, are also a possible pathway into Humanities and Social Science degrees and can be the perfect stepping stone between school and university. The University currently has more than 200 TAFE Credit Transfer Pathways and even more Entry Pathways on offer and these are being added to regularly. Several Humanities and Social Science degrees have TAFE Credit Pathways where credit for relevant studies undertaken at TAFE can be awarded; for example, an Advanced Diploma of Translating will get you 1.5 years credit into a Bachelor of Arts.
