Alternative Undergraduate Pathways

Entry into the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is very competitive, with many applicants from South Australia, interstate and overseas.  If you don't get in on your first try then our advice will depend on your particular situation.  This advice could be to take a year out and reapply, or to consider a different study pathway altogether, or maybe to enrol in a similar degree with us and then apply for an internal transfer into Medicine or Dentistry at a later stage.  Our Undergraduate Admissions Guide can be found here and contains information on these options.

There are many other related areas that you can study in Health Sciences. Check Degree Finder or contact us via the Health Sciences website to find out more.

Entry into the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) program is also highly competitive. However, there are many other avenues that allow you to study a major in Psychology and therefore undertake further study in this area (dependent on your university grades).  The Bachelor of Psychological Science is the next choice to consider.  But please also visit the School of Psychology website for details on the Bachelor programs that allow you to major in Psychology, which are Arts, Commerce, Health Sciences, Science or Social Science.

TAFE / VET Pathways

If you have successfully completed an AQF Certificate IV or higher, you may be eligible for both entry and credit into defined bachelor degrees.

A TAFE/VET pathway can provide a helpful stepping stone into university study, facilitating a smooth transition into higher education.

The University of Adelaide, in partnership with TAFE SA, has more than 250 credit pathways available. Three degrees offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences offer credit pathways: the Bachelor of Health Sciences, the Bachelor of Nursing, and the Bachelor of Oral Health. For example, a graduate holding an Advanced Diploma of Oral Health will be guaranteed 34 units of credit into a Bachelor of Oral Health, considerably reducing the remaining study load required to complete the degree.

Further to these credit pathways, you may also use your completed AQF Certificate IV to gain entry into the Bachelor of Psychological Science.

Please check out our non-school leavers information for TAFE/VET applicants.
