Policies and Assessment

The University's policies are listed in the Code of Practice for Postgraduate Coursework Studies.  You can also consult the University policies on assessment, examination and plagiarism.

The AUPGSA represents you on the Postgraduate Coursework Committee, which makes University policies on matters affecting Coursework students.

What information should I receive at the beginning of my course?

In the first two weeks of teaching in each of your courses, you should receive information in writing about the assessment requirements, including assessment options, deadlines and opportunities for resubmission of work. At this time, your lecturer should give you the opportunity to discuss and clarify the assessment requirements. If you feel that the assessment requirements are unfair or not appropriate, this is the time to raise your concerns.

Honours students: Your supervisor should provide you with guidelines for writing your thesis.  Honours students should also talk to their supervisors early in the year about their discpline's requirements for study beyond the honours level.

Can I question a mark or grade?

If you are enrolled in an honours or postgraduate coursework award, and you are not satisfied with the assessment of a piece of work or your final grade, you have the right to question this assessment.  The first step is to talk to the person responsible for the assessment and discuss your concerns. If you are not satisfied with the response to your concerns, you are entitled to:
