Chemical Safety Management Policy and Guidelines (Unrevised)
Overview:
Chemical use has the potential to harm the health and safety of people in the workplace. The term use encompasses the production, handling, storage, transport and disposal of substances in the workplace. A chemical can be in any form (solid, liquid or gas). Chemical by-products or mixtures may also be regarded as hazardous if they contain ingredients that are hazardous and are in concentrations above defined cut-off levels. If chemicals are not properly managed, the effects on health and associated costs can be significant. The purpose of this policy is to assist the University community to manage chemical hazards within the workplace.
Note:
This policy was approved by the Executive Director, Student and Staff Services. As from 1 January 2007, the Vice-President (Services and Resources) is responsible for this policy.
