Safety While Working in Temperature Extremes Policy (Unrevised)

Overview:

The aim of this policy is to provide guidance to achieve an acceptable thermal working environment whether in buildings, cold areas, or exposed to outdoor weather extremes. The policy promotes a guide for management and staff on ways to minimise the effect of temperatures on University personnel. University staff, students, and volunteers work in diverse locations where ambient temperatures vary between extremes of hot and cold. This policy supports the establishment, maintenance and management of workplaces where staff, students, and volunteers may work unaffected by extremes of temperature. Abnormal temperature working conditions can cause heat stress or cold stress. In either condition work performance is likely to become impaired before any clinical effects are produced. Illnesses caused by exposure to temperature extremes are progressive and can be life threatening.
