OH&S Action Planning Guidelines (Unrevised)

Overview:

The OH&S legislation and WorkCover Performance Standards for Self Insurers require employers to develop and implement comprehensive OH&S management systems, using a systematic hazard management process, including:- Workplace inspection and audit programs; Incident/Near Miss reporting and Investigation procedures; Systematic Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control processes; and Documented OH&S action plans (in reasonable detail) Areas must be able to demonstrate that they implement those plans and monitor and review their progress and effectiveness.

(This is also consistent with principles of sound corporate governance and recognised effective management practice. In addition, the University Mission and Values statements espouse - excellence in all our professional activities.)

The elements of the OH&S management system must be developed in consultation with employee representatives and/or Committees in order to achieve continuous improvement in workplace health, safety and welfare.

In accordance with these principles and to ensure effective management of OH&S, the University Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare Policy requires formal OH&S Action Plans to be developed, documented and implemented at University, Faculty/Division and School/Branch level and progress to be monitored and reported by Heads to Faculty/Division OH&S Committees and (in turn) to UHSC.

This policy was approved by the Executive Director, Student and Staff Services. As from 1 January 2007, the Vice-President (Services and Resources) is responsible for this policy.
