Consultation Guidelines
Face-to-face consultations are sessions with Learning Advisors to help you develop the following:
- Study skills: referencing, avoiding plagiarism, note-taking skills, reading skills, time-management.
- Writing skills: structuring and linking ideas, summarising, paraphrasing, integrating sources, academic style.
- Assessment tasks: essays, reports, case studies, literature reviews, oral presentations.
Individual consultations are usually 45 minutes to an hour.

Write to professions.learningcentre@adelaide.edu.au Provide the following: your name, student id and study program. State the type of support you seek (task and course). As the service is particularly in demand just before assignments are due, please book early to ensure your place.
A Learning Advisor will write to you offering an appointment. Confirm the appointment and email your draft (depending on the type of support). Remember to send the task instructions and assessment criteria.
3. Where are the face-to-face consultations held?
Appointments are usually held at the Learning Advisor’s office unless otherwise stated. Learning Advisors’ offices are located on: Level 1, Postgraduate Hub Nexus 10 (on the corner of Pulteney Street and North Terrace). See the Map or ask at the reception desk if you are not sure where to go.
4. How can you benefit from these sessions?
Make an appointment to see a Learning Advisor at least a few days before your assignment is due (not the same day please!) Identify areas you would like to improve. Be prepared to ask questions about your work. Make sure you have edited your work as the Learning Advisors will not edit or proof-read your draft. Bring a pen so that you can make notes during the session.
5. Learning Advisors cannot help you with:
- the content of your task.
- take-home exams.
- preparation for IELTS.
6. How do I cancel an appointment?
Please inform the Learning Advisor of a cancellation at least 24 hours in advance. Your cooperation will allow another student to use the time.
