Business and Economics Financial Incentive for Overseas Study

The Business and Economics Financial Incentive Scheme provides support to Economics, Business and Finance students who undertake overseas study as part of their University of Adelaide program. The scheme operates for a select number of partner institutions with a record of excellence in economic, business and management education. These universities are:

  • Thammasat University, Thailand
  • Singapore Management University, Singapore
  • McMaster University, Canada
  • HEC Montreal, Canada
  • ESCP-EAP Paris, France
  • Audencia School of Management, France
  • Aalto University, Finland
  • Aarhus School of Business, Denmark
  • European Business School, Germany

The scheme provides $3000 to individual students to assist with travel and accommodation costs. Overseas study included in the scheme can be:

  • Exchange – full-time study for one or two semesters
  • Short-term programs of 2-6 weeks duration (northern hemisphere Summer Schools for example)
  • Unhosted study tours

In 2012 there will be 10 grants of $3000 available to Undergraduate students, 5 for overseas study taking place in the first half of 2012 (Summer and Semester 1), and 5 for overseas study taking place in the second half of 2012 (Winter and Semester 2). This year there will be 2 grants guaranteed (subject to meeting minimum eligibility requirements) to students applying for Audencia School of Management.

Eligibility

  • Satisfactory level of academic achievement with at least a credit average i.e. > 65%
  • Credit approval with School for proposed program of study
  • Undergraduate students need to have completed at least 1 year of their Commerce or Finance degree
  • The Business and Economics Financial Incentive Scheme is provided in conjunction with the Adelaide Abroad office - please make yourself familiar with their requirements

Selection Criteria

Selection for the financial assistance is on the basis of academic merit and an evaluation of the student's reasons for wanting to participate in an overseas program. Applicants will need to include:

  • a referee statement attesting to their suitability for overseas study and as an ambassador for the University of Adelaide;
  • a short statement of purpose regarding why they wish to undertake overseas study towards their degree; and
  • a document addressing the statement “I have proven ability to represent the University of Adelaide, and to make the most of any educational and/or professional opportunities and experiences that may arise as part of the exchange experience".

How to apply

  • Consult with the Student Exchange Officer in the Professions Undergraduate Student Support Hub to discuss eligibility, programs of study and credit approval. You can do this via online chat, make an appointment at the front counter, or email abroad.ughub@adelaide.edu.au.
  • Complete the online application form, include the three supporting documents, and agree to the terms and conditions. Only online applications completed by COB on the due date will be accepted.

Deadlines

It is important to meet Adelaide Abroad application deadlines for the Adelaide Abroad programme. Application deadlines for the Business and Economics Financial Incentive for Overseas Study in 2012 are:

  • 31st October 2011 (for students intending on overseas study in the first half of 2012)
  • 31st March 2012 (for students intending on overseas study in the second half of 2012)

Note – additional deadlines and selection rounds may be scheduled if places remain open, however early submission is recommended.
