JULY 2009: Staff win Australian Learning and Teaching Citation
Congratulations to Business School staff member Georges Baume who received an ALTC citation for "sustained commitment to excellence in the delivery of MBA courses to transnational postgraduate students, resulting students' growth as confident critical thinkers and decision makers."
Congratulations to our Law School staff: Margaret Castles, Andrew Ligertwood, Cornelia Koch, Anne Hewitt and Matthew Stubbs for their joint citation for "the development of a suite of law courses designed to facilitate student learning of legal theory by immersion in simulated legal practice." |
JULY 2009: Student Hub Opens

As of Monday 20th July 2009 the new Faculty of Professions Student Hub OPENED for business following completion of an exciting $49 million refurbishment. Located on the corner of Pulteney Street and North Terrace, the Hub has been redeveloped to house facilities and Student Services for the Faculty of the Professions. Students enrolled in programs offered by the Faculty have access to the outstanding modern facilities and services featured throughout the Hub; including a student lounge, kitchen, learning support services, and numerous computing facilities with wireless network access. Additionally, an outdoor area and Café, with casual seating and tables creates a social and interactive learning environment for the students. One of the highlights of the Hub is a glass sky-bridge and glazed atrium, linking the existing Professions Tower and Education building. A combination of unique architecture, design, and advanced facilities, the Professions Hub proves a popular community space that offers an unparalleled learning environment and friendly atmosphere.

JULY 2009: The Executive Dean of the Professions' Prize for Excellence in Teaching
The Faculty of the Professions has awarded prizes for excellence in teaching since 2006. This year, the successful applicants were:
Joshua McCarthy from the School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. Joshua lectures in digital media with specific interests in animation, interactive design and digital art. His research interests are concerned with student learning outcomes within various fields of design art. His research interests are concerned with student learning outcomes within various fields of design, specific to digital media.
Dr Virginie Masson from the School of Economics. Virginie lectures in a number of Economics courses including large core courses. Her application demonstrates a reflective and committed involvement in teaching, and an active engagement in the development of strategies for supporting students and engaging them through assessment and appropriate technology.
A function to celebrate the success of these staff and those staff who received ALTC citations will be held on Monday 31 August 2009. |
JULY 2009: Architecture Students win National Student Design Competition!
| University of Adelaide Architecture Students have won a national student design competition at Re:hab (Australia/New Zealand Student Architecture Congress.) The annual congress held this year in Canberra held a design competition which students entered from schools across Australia. The University of Adelaide SALUD's Jessica Miley, Aylwen Dennis and Johanna Picton took first prize with their installation that explored the possibilities of 'found space' for gardens. Congratulations to these three fifth year students who are studying both architecture and landscape architecture at the school. |
JUNE 2009: Law School staff win University Grant for Learning and Teaching
| Congratulations to Margaret Castles and Anne Hewitt who were successful in their application for a 2009 University grant for Learning and Teaching enhancements. The grant of $17,000 is for a project entitled, 'Developing Law Student's Skills in Group Work, Advocacy and ADR' which is designed to develop specialised teaching resources for final year law courses. |
MARCH 2009: Architecture Student Achievement: Anne Weckert
| Anne Weckert, third year Design Studies student, has been selected as one of three students representing the University of Adelaide to the AC 21 Student World Forum at Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany, 22-27 June 2009. The Student World Forum was initiated by the AC 21 (Academic Consortium 21), an international network of academic and non-academic institutions with the purpose of encouraging the advancement of global corporation to benefit higher education. The specific topic for the Forum is "Production in the 21st Century" and Forum will explore ways that production technology can be applied through the advances in innovation and technology to meet some of these global challenges. |
