How does the Internship work for my Organisation?

You submit a one page Internship Outline that includes information about your organisation and the type of work the Intern can expect to do.

Placements differ according to industry and organisation, with some interns working solely on projects and others also learning about and assisting with the day to day activities of the organisation. Placements to date have included:

  • Financial Services
  • Agriculture and Trade Policy
  • Work in Regional Economics
  • Education
  • Business Strategy
  • Marketing Strategy and Market Analysis
  • Human Resource Management
  • Organisational Development
  • International Business

An intern would usually undertake a general mix of tasks as follows:

  • Project work – 50% (includes the research and writing of a research report of use to the organisation)
  • Observation / Client work – 40% (includes attending office meetings, board meetings, client meetings with supervisor, shadowing supervisor, researching clients, follow-up work and support work for placement supervisor)
  • Clerical work – 10% (includes administrative duties, filing, reception)

Please note: these breakdowns are flexible and work negotiated will depend on your industry and your organisation. The most important thing is that the student Intern is able to obtain a real working experience, and that the project or tasks they undertake are of benefit to your organisation.
