Program Outline

In today's society, the law reaches into almost every aspect of our lives. Thus, the study of law today is more challenging and intellectually adventurous than it has ever been. Roles for law graduates are expanding significantly and rapidly.

To legal professionals, this program will provide a competitive, high quality and flexible coursework Masters for their extended development. In addition, the program will appeal to those wishing to further develop their scholarly skills in legal research and writing.

The Master of Laws provides access to a range of areas to suit both domestic and international students proceeding directly from undergraduate study, as well as experienced legal practitioners wishing to specialise in areas of commercial law. This program includes a range of elective courses suited to those with a particular interest in international and comparative commercial law.

The program is designed to offer flexibility to suit particular interests. It consists of eight courses chosen from the list of law courses. It is also possible to include courses from other disciplines within the University, subject to approval by the Program Coordinator. Seminar-style teaching is employed, with one course usually involving 36 hours of classes over a twelve-week semester. Some courses are taught during the evening or on weekends, while other courses may be taught intensively over two or more weeks.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate Law degree. Entry is competitive and selection will be on the basis of academic merit. Normally a successful applicant would have achieved a credit average or better in their law degree.
