Architectural Engineers design the engineering systems associated with buildings, including planning, design, construction and operation with an emphasis on sustainability, architectural and structural design, mechanical and geotechnical engineering. Students will study the planning, design, construction and operation of engineered systems for diverse constructions.
This program combines Civil and Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and the creative design aspects from Architecture. Graduates will have extensive career opportunities at both the national and global level, as they will be equipped with the skills to design and engineer constructions in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Please note that each level of the program is intended to be rolled out progressively on an annual basis, therefore in 2009, levels one and two are the only levels available level for commencing students.
The first two years of the program build a scientific and engineering foundation for the more specialist architectural engineering courses which predominate in the third and fourth years. Please note that each level of the program is intended to be rolled out progressively on an annual basis, therefore in 2008, level one is the only available level for commencing students in 2008.

Students who have not taken SACE Stage 2 Specialist maths will be required to enrol in maths 1MA followed by Maths 1A and Maths 1B in summer semester to complete the requirements at Level 1. |

Students may take up to 3 units of Level II or III courses offered by the School of Mathematical Sciences. Students may also, with the approval of the Head of School, replace one or more specialisation courses with appropriate courses offered by other schools in the University. The specialisation courses offered by the School in any one year will depend on staff availability, and will be chosen from the following: Group I: Structural Engineering

Architectural Engineers are in increasing demand as the need for sustainable buildings becomes increasingly high. By being able to apply engineering skills in conjunction with design skills gives architectural engineers a unique advantage, and also the skills necessary to engage in all aspects of a building project. Through their inter-disciplinary background, Architectural Engineers understand and address architectural goals as they design building systems. Architectural Engineers attempt to integrate building HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical, lighting, transportation, and structural systems with architectural design.
As such, the broad range of skills of an Architectural Engineer enables them to take on roles througout almost any aspect of a building's construction. When combined with the worldwide demand for Architectural Engineers, a degree in Architectural Engineering will present many exciting career opportunities.
