Social justice issues of local and global significance can be analysed, interpreted and measured. The Bachelor of Social Sciences has a strong focus on applied social research, policy analysis and writing providing a critical grounding for students in a broad range of knowledge of the social sciences. It prepares you for employment in public, private and non-government organisations in Australia and overseas. Graduates work in careers in social planning, government policy making, market research, media and public relations, aid development organisations, environmental agencies and the health sector.
The University has student exchange links with over 100 overseas institutions. You can study overseas for one or two semesters which counts as credit towards your degree program at the University of Adelaide. In addition there are no extra tuition fees for this study. What better way to test out newly developed language skills or experience another culture as you learn?
This program mixes core learning in a broad range of relevant areas (such as Globalisation, Justice and the Crowded Planet; Social Sciences in Australia; Ethnography: Engaged Research; Social Sciences Techniques) with practical research investigation. You will be introduced to methods and tools to design and conduct social research and develop approaches to analyse findings and advocate change. You’ll also specialise and undertake a ‘major’ choosing from the above areas of study.
Other opportunities include working on a research project with one of over 50
industry partners in an internship the media, arts, environment or parliament.
You can also study overseas for a semester (or two) as part of your degree
choosing from over 100 institutions around the world, and have chance to benefit
from regular career forums and mentoring programs run by the Faculty.

These include State Parliament and a range of public and business sector agencies, where you can use the knowledge from your university study in a practical work environment, building valuable networks and gaining experience that counts towards your degree program and prepares you for your future career.
