Program Outline

This program is currently under review.

The Graduate Diploma allows candidates to expand their mathematical background and communication skills in a variety of mathematical disciplines, at a postgraduate level. Candidates have the option of undertaking a research project in addition to their coursework.

Candidates have the chance to specialise in one discipline, or choose a broader selection of courses, possibly including some from other institutions, thereby customising the degree to the candidate's interests.

The Graduate Diploma is a 24 unit program with 18 units selected from Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and/or Statistics plus a project option.

Intending students should consult the School of Mathematical Sciences early in the year in which they plan to study to confirm if particular courses are available.

Prospective students should consult the relevant school early in the year in which they plan to study in order to ascertain whether particular courses will be available in that year, which semester they will be taught and their precise content.

Note:
To be eligible for the award for the Graduate Diploma in Mathematical Sciences, candidates must complete at least 12 units from the Level III/Masters courses listed above. At least 18 units of the 24 units presented in total must be course work. Project work is optional.

At least 18 units in total from Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and/or Statistics (including Coursework and Project option) must be presented.

In addition to the above, courses may be chosen from those listed in the Calendar for any degree of the University approved for the purpose by the Faculty.  Such courses must not comprise more than 8 units of Level II studies and must be approved as relevant to the program of study by the Postgraduate Coordinator.

Final approval of enrolment must be obtained from the Program Coordinator.
