The Elder Conservatorium of Music offers the coursework program, Graduate Diploma in Music Performance, in a lively community of musicians.

The Elder Music Library, the largest in the southern hemisphere, forms a considerable resource.

The Conservatorium recognises:

  • the significance of the music to the cultural life of society;
  • the importance of exploring new parameters of artistic and scholarly endeavour;
  • the importance of developing the highest professional standards of music training and education; and
  • the importance of fostering and maintaining close links with professional arts bodies as well as the wider community through course offerings, public lectures, performances, workshops, seminars and other events.

Program Structure

The program consists of 24 units of study and comprises performance tuition through preparation of a major recital (12 units), a minor recital (6 units) and negotiated projects (6 units). The recitals provide the opportunity to present a program of works in the major study and may include solo works, chamber music, orchestral material, concerti or accompaniment. The negotiated projects allow the student to select an activity that complements their major study with negotiated learning outcomes and modes of assessment.
