Program Outline

The Master of Accounting & Finance offers a combination of accounting and finance studies in order to enhance career prospects and extend knowledge of both disciplines. The combined studies of accounting and finance have never been more in demand by employers who value employees' abilities to synthesise both disciplines.

The study of accounting and finance will strengthen graduates employability in the areas of financial management while providing a professional accounting qualification.

Program Structure

Students complete core courses which include foundation courses, accounting courses and finance courses. The remaining courses will be either accounting or finance courses, depending on the student's main specialisation.

Study Plans

Foundation courses (12 units)
Accounting courses (12 units)

Four courses chosen from: 

Applied Finance courses (12 units)
Four Electives (12 units)
Students choose two accounting courses or two applied finance courses plus two electives chosen from the list of commerce courses*.

* Unless exempted, all international students are required to undertake COMMERCE 7041: Business Communications (M) which must be presented in lieu of an elective.

Career Opportunities

On completion of this program you can advance your career in the accounting profession in a wide range of roles including specialised fields such as taxation, auditing, managment accounting and accounting systems. The Finance area enables you to acquire skills to seek employment as an analyst, consultant or manager in the financial services sector; including banks, investment institutions and financial planning consultancies.

Professional Accreditation

The Master of Accounting and Finance program is designed to satisfy the academic requirements for associate membership of CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA). Appropriate courses must be undertaken to fulfill the associate membership requirements of both professional bodies.

The program is also recognised as a CFA Program Partner.
