* Research Training Scheme (RTS) - Currently all commencing "local" higher degree by research students at the University of Adelaide are awarded a Research Training Scheme (RTS) place. The RTS place
entitles the student to a maximum period of four years
of tuition fee exempt candidature to undertake
a PhD program or two years of tuition fee
exempt candidature to undertake a Masters
program. This means there is no HECS debt
at the end of the program. International About the SchoolThe School of Economics is responsible for teaching economics and finance to students in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the University, and in all areas of theoretical and applied economics, statistics, econometrics, economic history, international finance, international trade, and development economics. The School is one of few in Australian universities, which offers graduate-level coursework for the Masters and PhD degrees. The School of Economics is committed to providing the very best quality learning opportunities for students and provides an excellent, well-rounded professional and general education in a top-quality learning environment. It aims to produce well-trained graduates who have the capacity for independent thought and work, as well as for teamwork. Students are given the education and encouragement to develop their full potential, and to allow them to make an intellectual contribution at the highest levels of business, government and the community. The School employs academic staff of the highest calibre who are dedicated to excellence in teaching and research. Staff members include internationally renowned scholars and academic researchers, whose work focuses on current issues and new developments in a wide range of fields, though there is some concentration on the areas of international trade, international finance, and economic development. The School of Economics has an excellent reputation in Australia and overseas. Its research and coursework programs provide postgraduate students with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of economic thought and processes. Advanced level courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics are a core requirement of the Masters of Economics and PhD programs. The School has a strong research base and includes staff who are specialists in the core areas of the discipline (economic theory, macro/monetary economics and econometrics) as well as economic development, economic history, environmental economics, financial economics, international economics and public economics.
