Hydrants

Back to Building Fire Safety Features

Hydrants are located both internally and externally throughout the University.

They are installed to provide adequate water, under sufficient pressure and flow, to allow the fire brigade to fight fires.

It should be noted that in accordance with the building code, not all buildings need fire hydrants. Factors requiring a system to be installed include:

Size and nature of the building
Fire hazards present

Hydrants are to be kept clear of any obstruction, to ensure immediate access for the Fire Service in an Emergency.
