Common Teaching Area Upgrades

The University of Adelaide's Strategic Development Plan is focused on creating an enriching and fulfilling experience for students and staff. The next three years will be an exciting period as Property Services manages the upgrades to the Common Teaching Areas.

In May 2006 a list of proposed Common Teaching Areas Upgrades for 2007-2009 was approved by the Vice-Chancellor and President in May 2006. These upgrades are being undertaken in a multi-staged approach due to availability issues with rooms and funds.

Group 1 upgrades included audio visual and lectern improvements only. The areas in this first stage were Flentji and Horace Lamb Lecture Theatres, Schulz Building Seminar Rooms 307a & 308b and Medical School South PBL tutorial rooms MSS 11, MSS 17c, MSS 18 and MSS21b.

Work for Group 1 was completed on budget before the new teaching year began. The Flentji and Horace Lamb theatres now have dual projection facilities, similar to those installed in the Napier 102. The smaller tutorial sized PBL rooms in Medical School South will be the first areas on North Terrace Campus to have large wall mounted LCD screens.

During the 2007/2008 summer holidays, refurbishment of the Group 1 areas, including seating, will be completed.

The Group 2 upgrades include the Macbeth, Hughes and Rennie Lecture Theatres and Engineering Annex A308 seminar room. Consultants have been engaged and design is underway. Work is on track and due for completion in readiness for semester 2.

The following Group 3 upgrades are scheduled to be carried out in the 2007/2008 summer breaks:

• McLeod Lecture Theatre (Waite)
• Charles Hawker Conference Centre (Waite)
• Callaghan Lecture Theatre (Roseworthy)
• Richardson Lecture Theatre

Multiple rooms in the Education Building (G04, G05, G11, G13, G15, G16, G20, G21, G22, G23 and G24) will also be upgraded as part of the Major Projects program.

In today's highly competitive environment and for the University of Adelaide to continue to meet its goal of providing a strong student learning focus, the Common Teaching Area upgrades will offer the following:

• state-of-the-art audio visual equipment
• new finishes and seating
• high quality vitreous china white boards
• data projectors (single and dual)
• large screens
• DVD players
• amplifiers and speakers
• energy-efficient electronic controlled lighting
