Barr Smith Library Fire and Life Safety

The University is continuing with a $2.5M project to upgrade the Fire and Life Safety (F&LS) systems in the Barr Smith Library buildings complex, in order to comply with the Building Code of Australia.

Installation of fire hydrants, hose reels and Fire Egress doors within the complex have already been upgraded and an external exit stairway, known as Stair 10 from level 3 in the Barr Smith Library Plaza building has been completed.

Installation of sprinklers is required to significantly reduce risk.

Work commenced on 19 August 2005 and is scheduled for completion early 2007.

The University of Adelaide have engaged Swanbury Penglase and contracted Brimblecombe Builders to carry out the work.
