The Reproductive Health Co-location Project

Back to completed projects

The University has completed an ambitious $4.7M project to relocate the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital into the Medical School Biomedical Precinct.

The O&G relocation features a 'state of the art' research laboratory on the 2nd floor of Medical School South and gallery space displaying the history of O&G.

To accommodate Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) was moved out of the Medical School South Building into refurbished space in the Engineering Annex in October 2005, and the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health (ARCPOH) has been relocated to 122 Frome Road. A complex series of prior moves within the Medical School and an upgrade of the Medical School South, S210 teaching laboratory have also taken place to make the space available for O&G.

The O&G fitout was officially opened by The Honourable John Hill, MP on October 10, 2006.

The redevelopment and co-location of the Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Research Centre for Reproductive Health, together with the recent formation of the School of Paediatrics and Reproductive Health, continues the Faculty of Health Sciences mission to achieve Excellence and Innovation in Teaching, Research and Community Services in Health.
