Set amongst the picturesque grounds of the University of Adelaide’s Waite Campus, Urrbrae House is a very fine example of the eclectic Federation Queen Anne style of architecture.
Urrbrae House was constructed in 1891 for its owner, Peter Waite. This historic residence is listed on the South Australian Heritage register and forms part of the bequest made to the University by Peter Waite in 1922.
The University has undertaken in a staged manner salt damp remediation and conservation works at a total cost of $1.5M. The work included the rebuilding of the front entry staircase, the construction of a new sealed entry driveway and salt damp remediation to the Northern elevation.
The project was completed in September 2006, ensuring the longevity of this unique building well into the future.
