Research topics in areas covered by this centre are attractive to students as centre members make a large contribution to PhD supervision within the School. In addition members of the centre are the major contributors to Master of Psychology professional training which leads to registration to practise. Masters' student research aligns with the needs of practitioner co-supervisors (usually clinical title holders), and therefore has high social impact and utility as well as leading to peer-reviewed publications.

Since 2006, members of the proposed Centre were acting as primary or associate supervisors over 96 PhD and 30 Masters research projects, with joint supervisions within the group meaning that the total number of students concerned is somewhat lower.
