Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences

Graduate Diploma handbook

The Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences is a program for students who already hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution and meet the prerequisites for Level II Psychology topics by having completed either: University of Adelaide courses PSYCHOL 1000A Psychology IA and 1000B Psychology IB, PSYCHOL 6100 Introductory Psychology; or equivalent topics from other institutions that are deemed suitable by the School of Psychology. The Graduate Diploma is normally taken as a full-time program over one year; although it is possible to enrol over two consecutive years. To complete the course and qualify for the Graduate Diploma, candidates are required to pass courses to the value of at least 24 units. The program is structured to be taken in the following sequence:

 

Full-time study (1 year)

Semester 1

PSYCHOL 6020 – Doing Research in Psychology

PSYCHOL 6022 – Foundations of Perception & Cognition

Choose two from the three:

PSYCHOL 6026 – Individual Differences, Personality & Assessment

PSYCHOL 6030 – Learning & Behaviour

PSYCHOL 6031 – Psychology, Science & Society

 

Semester 2

PSYCHOL 6021 – Foundations of Health & Lifespan Developmental Psychology

PSYCHOL 6023 – Psychology in Society

PSYCHOL 6024 – Doing Research in Psychology: Advanced

PSYCHOL 6027 – Perception & Cognition

 

Part-time study (2-years)

Semester 1

PSYCHOL 6020 – Doing Research in Psychology: Research Design, Methods & Analysis

Completion of the Graduate Diploma allows students to apply for Honours Psychology at any APAC accredited Australian University. Students should be aware, however, that entry into Honours Psychology is competitive, and selection is based on academic merit. Honours Psychology is the basic academic requirement for registration as a Psychologist.
