Psychology Research Interests

I am looking at men’s help-seeking for psychological concerns. That is, why men do not seek help for psychological problems as much as women do. A startling statistic is that only about 9% of men in Australia who have a mental illness actually seek help for this problem. My PhD research aims to determine the factors which inhibit men from seeking psychological help. It is hoped that this research will elicit ways to increase the mental health literacy of men, as well as inform policy makers in the types of mental health service structures which would best suit men’s needs.
