PSYCHOL 6100 Introductory Psychology

This course requires payment of tuition fees (either upfront or through FEE-HELP).

The cost for the Introductory Psychology for 2010 is $2500.00

This course is available to candidates who have applied for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences and have not met the Level I Psychology prerequisite.

It is an intensive 6-week course that runs from 5 January until 12 February 2010.

The course involves external study through self-directed learning and online lectures and incorporates two 2-hour on-campus tutorials per week.

On completion of the course a 'pass' or better must be achieved to be eligible to be made an offer (through SATAC) for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences. The Graduate Diploma commences the week of 1 March 2010.

For applicants who need to do the Introductory Psychology course, applications for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences need to be submitted to SATAC by November 27, 2009.

Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences

This course requires payment of tuition fees (either upfront or through FEE-HELP).

The cost for the Graduate Diploma for 2010 is $10,500

Intending applicant handbook

All applicants must have a completed Bachelor's degree. Applicants who have completed Level II or III Psychology subjects are not eligible unless only 6-units or less have been completed (credit towards the Graduate Diploma will be granted in such cases).

Applicants who have successfully completed university Level I Psychology within the last 10 years apply through SATAC for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences.

SATAC code: 3GD060

Applicants without Level I Psychology (within the last 10 years) must complete an intensive summer course (Introductory Psychology) as non-award study. Applicants will need to apply for the Graduate Diploma in Psychological Sciences (with qualifying studies).

Applicants will not be considered for an offer after 27 November 2009 if they have not met the Level I Psychology prerequisite. Only applicants who have already met the prerequisite Psychology IA and IB requirements will be considered after this date.

Completion of the Graduate Diploma will enable students to apply for the Honours year in Psychology at any Australian University accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).

Master of Psychology

All Master applicants, who have a SATAC number, will have access to an online database in which the following information can be entered

  • referee names and addresses
  • work experience (voluntary or paid)
  • publications.

This database will open on the 2 November 2009.

Master of Psychology (Clinical)

The aim of this program is to provide graduates with the tertiary-level education required to be eligible for registration as a Psychologist and eligibility for membership of the Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists.

Master of Psychology (Health)

The program will provide a professional qualification for those who wish to work as psychologists within the applied health field. In particular, the aim of the program is to produce health psychologists who can apply psychological research and methods to the prevention and management of disease and illness; the promotion and maintenance of health; the identification of psychological factors contributing to illness; and the improvement of the health care system and health policy.

Master of Psychology (Organisational & Human Factors)

The key objective of this program is to provide thorough theoretical and practical skills in core areas to meet formal requirements for entry to the profession (as determined by the Australian Psychological Society and its College of Organisational Psychologists).

The study of Organisational Psychology and Human Factors is concerned with identifying and applying scientific solutions to human problems at work.
