Professor Birgit Lohmann is a graduate of the University of Adelaide (First-Class Honours in Science, 1979) and Flinders University (PhD in Atomic and Molecular Physics, 1984). After a stint as a postdoctoral fellow at the Australian National University, she took up a position as a lecturer at Murdoch University in 1986, where she initiated a research program in experimental electron collision physics. In 1990 Professor Lohmann moved to Griffith University, where she was a member of the physics staff, Deputy Head, and subsequently Head of the School of Science and Director of the Centre for Quantum Dynamics. At Griffith University she chaired School, Faculty and University committees related to learning and teaching, and was the Chair of the Queensland Fulbright Committee for three years. Professor Lohmann’s research interests are in electron and positron collisions with atoms and molecules, with an emphasis on complete experiments in electron impact ionization of such targets. She is Node Manager of the University of Adelaide node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Antimatter-Matter Studies. Professor Lohmann has produced over 100 journal and conference contributions, and has served on the scientific committees of many international conferences. She is currently one of two Australian representatives on the General Committee of the International Conference on Photonic, Electronic and Atomic Collisions. The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Quality) contributes to achieving the University's strategic goals by providing leadership in the areas of learning and teaching, as well as oversight of the University's quality assurance processes.
