GRANTS - NATIONAL

GlaxoSmithKline Post Graduate Support Grants

Internal Deadline

GlaxoSmithKline launched a post graduate support grant programme offering grants of up to $15,000 per annum for two years to PhD or Post Doctorate students in the field of human health. These awards were designed to provide further financial support to PhD or Post Doctorate research students who are already in receipt of a research grant from a non commercial body.

The recipient of the grant will be in the field of human health. Further limitations on the field are listed below.

Fields: The Field should be one of the following. Please enter the applicable field into section 6 of the on-line application form.
1. Respiratory, Inflammation & Musculoskeletal
2. Metabolic Diseases and Cardiovascular
3. Neurology & Psychiatry 
4. Microbial & Viral
5. Proliferative Disease (includes Cancer)
6. Drug Delivery 
7. Drug Discovery Technology 
8. Prophylactic Vaccines 
9. Non Therapy Area Specific Biomedical Research

Excluded Fields: Applications are not sought for the following fields.
1. Dentistry
2. Optometry

Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth-Call for Applications - Fourth Round (Seed funding)

Internal Deadline

The Network is now inviting applications from Network participants and members of Network Contributing Organisations for a fourth round of seed-funding. This is to support the formation of multi-disciplinary, multi-sector collaborations, with the goal of producing useful resources and successful grant applications.

The following four topic areas have been identified as targets for this round of funding:
1. Experience of social exclusion for children and youth in rural areas;
2. Health and wellbeing implications of the internet
3. System integration from early childhood to adolescence
4. Homelessness in children

Premier's Science & Research Fund (PSRF) - Call for Proposals

Internal Deadline

The Fund Objectives and Guidelines for Applicants for Round 6 of the
PSRF funding scheme have been released and can be accessed at:

The PSRF application process involves two stages. Stage 1 comprises a
3-page 'Expression of Interest' and these are due by *Monday 11th August
2008* in Research Branch, together with a fully signed internal contribution certification page. Please note that the PSRF require significant co-contributions from host institutions and partner organisations, and  these contributions _must_ have appropriate approval. As in previous years, the PSRF will also consider requests for support for ARC Federation Fellowship applications.

Nature Foundation SA Postgraduate Scholarship Grants and Research Grants 

Internal Deadline

A Project or Scholarship Grant may be supported that:

1. concerns South Australian parks and conservation reserves, wildlife or the natural environment
2. is compatible with the aims and philosophy of the Nature Foundation SA Inc
3. has clear objectives and achievable outcomes
4. acknowledges the support of the Nature Foundation SA Inc in all printed material and public statements
5. could involve applied research

Applications for funding are reviewed by the Projects Committee using the guidelines above. The committee allocates the funds on the basis of:
1. the quality of the project
2. the abilities of the proponents
3. the relative importance of the outcomes (taking into account the aims of the Nature Foundation and information from appropriate technical experts)
4. value for money (this includes the potential of the project to attract funds from other sources: for example, sponsors or donors
5. funds available at that time, and
6. attractiveness of the project to potential sponsors

Research Grants for Getty Scholars and Visiting Scholars

Internal Deadline

Getty Scholar and Visiting Scholar Grants provide a unique research experience. Recipients are in residence at the Getty Research Institute where they pursue their own projects free from academic obligations, make use of Getty collections, join their colleagues in a weekly meeting devoted to the 2009-10 theme of The Display of Art and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty.

These grants are for established scholars, artists, or writers who have attained distinction in their fields. Applications are welcome from researchers of all nationalities who are working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

GRANT - TRAVEL

The Heart Foundation- Research Call for Applications (Travel Grants)

Internal Deadline

Travel Grants offer financial support to junior researchers who are presenting their work at an overseas conference. Researchers working on indigenous health projects are eligible to use a Travel Grant for conferences within Australia. The Heart Foundation offers Travel Grants to junior researchers working in the area of cardiovascular disease or related areas. Travel grants are open to Australian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must be based in Australia.

Please note that all Travel Grant applications must now be submitted through the Research Administration Office of your institution. Travel Grant applications received by the Heart Foundation

Pacific Economic Postdoctoral Fellowships 2009

The aim of the PEPFs is to support high quality research by early career researchers that informs policy development and increases the general stock of knowledge on development issues in the Pacific.

Priority topics:

3. Sectoral reform to improve outcomes for women and women's enterprise.

PRIZE

Australian Academy of Science -2009 Gottschalk Medal (Call for Nominations)

External Deadline

The Gottschalk medal recognises the contributions to science by the late Dr A. Gottschalk, FAA.

Its purpose is to recognise outstanding research in the medical sciences by scientists under 40 years at the closing date, except in the case of significant interruptions to a research career. The awardee may not be a Fellow of the Academy. The award is made annually and is restricted to candidates who are normally resident in Australia and for research conducted mainly in Australia.

NB – If a proposed candidate is already the recipient of an Academy award, the second award must be for a distinct, additional, body of work undertaken since the first award, and/or work in a different field.

InBev-Baillet Latour Health Prize 2009

The ARTOIS-BAILLET LATOUR Foundation was established on the 1st of March 1974 at the initiative of Count Alfred de BAILLET LATOUR, Director of the ARTOIS Breweries, who presented it with a considerable endowment.

The aim of the Foundation was defined as follows :
"The sole aim of the Foundation shall be to encourage and reward achievements of outstanding human value in the Arts and Sciences by means of Prizes, study and travel grants, donations in cash or kind, or by any other means that the Foundation might deem appropriate. The Foundation shall be a non-profit institution and shall have no political, trade-union, philosophical or religious affiliation or allegiance".

NHMRC Program Grants – Call for Applications

The NHMRC will open a call for applications under its Program Grants Scheme on 31 May 2008, for grants commencing in 2010. The aim of the Program Grants scheme is to provide support for teams of high calibre researchers to pursue broadly based collaborative research activities, contributing to new knowledge health and medical research.

Program Grant applications have been scheduled to eliminate the need for applicants to make simultaneous Project Grant applications. Applications are open for new teams or current Program Grant holders in their 4th or 5th year in 2008.

Project Grants (Preliminary Proposals) - Dairy Australia

Internal Deadline

Dairy Australia is now accepting research and development preliminary proposals. Applications are judged on the perceived benefits to the Australian dairy industry and potential for success. Most projects are between 1 and 3 years – longer projects will only be funded in exceptional circumstances.

2008/2009 round of Native Vegetation Council Research Grants

Internal Deadline

The Native Vegetation Council manages the Native Vegetation Fund and has an annual program of grants to support research activities related to native vegetation conservation.  While the Council is willing to consider any research proposals that will enhance our knowledge regarding the conservation and management of native vegetation in South Australia, it assesses applications against the following criteria:

  • outcomes that inform and assist in the development of native vegetation policy by the Council,
  • outcomes leading to improved management of native vegetation and/or conservation status of species or communities,
  • specific recommendations aimed at improving some aspect of habitat or biodiversity conservation in South Australia.

Please note: This program supports research.  Projects seeking on ground restoration works will not be funded through this program.

International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM)- International Visits & Exchanges Programme -Round 9

The ICE WaRM International Visits and Exchanges Programme provides an opportunity to industry, vocational education and training and the tertiary education sector and research communities for increased engagement at an international level in the area of water resources management education.

Participants on short to medium term visits and exchanges will be able to share skills, knowledge and experiences that will benefit the individual, their home and host organisations and ICE WaRM to enhance the field of water resources management.
