DEST - French-Australian Science and Technology Programme (FAST)
The Australian Government in conjunction with the Government of the Republic
of France has established the French-Australian S&T (FAST) Programme. The
Programme is jointly managed by the Department of Education Science and Training
(DEST) and its French counterparts, the Ministry of National Education, Universities
and Research (MENESR) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE). The objective
of FAST is to promote and support scientific and technological cooperation between
Australian and French researchers in both public and private sectors. FAST will
provide financial assistance, on a competitive basis, for small collaborative
research projects (including project specific follow-up meetings) between Australian
and French researchers. Activities that are eligible for funding support are only
international travel and living expenses. Accordingly, funding does not extend
to insurances, salaries and equipment expenses. Individual applications may request
funding for up to 2 years. Under the 2007 FAST programme round, applications will
be considered for research collaboration in the areas of natural resources, energy
and life sciences. The following (2008) FAST round will consider applications
in the areas of materials, and information and communication technologies. Applications
need to be completed online by 13 October 2006. Please provide a hard copy to
Research Branch for our records. Further information is available at https://sciencegrants.dest.gov.au/ISL/Pages/Doc.aspx?name=FranceFund.htm

NHMRC/JDRF Special Program Grants in Type 1 Diabetes
The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) have established a joint program in Australia to advance research into Type 1 diabetes, funded by Special Program Grants for up to five years. Each Special Program Grant awarded will support a critical mass of investigators, working on a problem of importance to people with Type 1 diabetes. Multi-disciplinary team approaches are encouraged. Special Program Grants will also support the training and development of young scientists and clinical investigators. Applications are sought particularly from groups who bring novel approaches from disciplines not traditionally associated with diabetes research. 2 hard copies + electronic of the application are due in Research Branch by 27 September 2006. Further information is available at http://www.adelaide.edu.au/rb/nhmrc/
ARC Linkage International Scheme
The ARC Linkage International Awards (Round 3) application form is now available in GAMS. Applications are due in Research Branch by Friday 29 September 2006.
Linkage-International aims to build strong on-going collaborations between research groupings or centres of excellence in Australia and overseas, involving the exchange of researchers at both senior and junior levels. It supports two types of awards:
- Fellowships, under international agreements for the reciprocal exchange of postdoctoral researchers (previously funded under the International Research Fellowships Scheme (IRF) and the Anglo-Australian Observatory (AAO) Fellowship Agreement)
- Awards, to build links between research centres of excellence in Australia and overseas by funding extended collaborations
Further information, including links to the Funding Rules and Instructions, are available on the Research Branch website at http://www.adelaide.edu.au/rb/arc/LinkInt.html

The University Of Adelaide and CSIRO Health Sciences And Nutrition Collaborative Grants Program - The Brailsford Robertson Award 2007 - 2008
The University of Adelaide and CSIRO Human Nutrition are jointly funding an award of $200,000 to encourage collaborative research into life sciences between members of the two organisations. Where appropriate, industry and/or international collaboration will be highly regarded.
The award will fund a collaborative research project between members of the two organisations, recognising the contribution of Professor T Brailsford Robertson to the University of Adelaide as Professor of Physiology and Biochemistry (1919-1927) and to CSR (later CSIRO) as Chief of the Division of Animal Nutrition (1927-1930).
Projects with the potential to forge links with international research institutes in food, nutrition and health are strongly encouraged, as are those with the potential to lead to more significant research programs, which would have the capacity to attract funding and support from sources external to the University and the CSIRO.
An amount up to a total of $200,000 over two years will be awarded to the successful applicant team.
Proposals for the Brailsford Robertson Award for 2007-2008 are now invited from members of the University and CSIRO Human Nutrition.
Enquiries in relation to the Brailsford Robertson Award may be directed to Kate Jarrett at the Research Branch - Telephone 8303 3765 or email at kate.jarrett@adelaide.edu.au
Information and instructions are available at http://www.adelaide.edu.au/rb/funding/csiro.html.
Applications are to be submitted on the official Application Form by 13 November
2006.
Premier's Science & Research Fund
The Premiers Science and Research Fund is an initiative of the South
Australian Government and the Premiers Science and Research Council (PSRC).
The fund can inject up to $3 million per annum into R&D projects, to help
stimulate the building and
practical application of skills, knowledge and capabilities in research and innovation,

and Innovation in South Australia (STI10).
For the 2006/07 round the specific objective is to support research projects
that will progress the development of Constellation SA (refer http://www.constellationsa.sa.gov.au/
).
Projects should:
- be proposed and managed jointly by South Australian research providers and industry
