The Access to Major Research Facilities Program (AMRFP) supports access by Australian researchers from industry, private and public research organisations and universities to major international research facilities that are not available in Australia or to attend overseas strategic planning meetings to secure access to a major research facility. This program primarily supports travel where time has been granted on an overseas major facility following peer review. Collaboration visits will not be supported unless time has already been granted at an eligible facility. Two six-month funding rounds are held each year. The aim of the small grants program is to provide financial assistance to organisations planning projects that meet the Foundation's objects. The program is designed to provide fast trunaround time and quick outcomes. Small grants can be applied for at any time, and decision making takes approximately eight weeks.No organisation is excluded from applying for a small grant. Preference will, however, be given to applications initiated at the community level or with substantial community input. We welcome joint applications from more than one organisation, although the application needs to be auspiced by a single incorporated organisation. This award is designed to further advance curative, palliative or preventative treatment options for those burdened with asbestos related diseases. The Australian Lung Foundation / Slater & Gordon Asbestos Research Fund Grant-in-Aid shall be to the value of A$30,000 for one (1) year. It may be used to support technical staff and/or the purchase of equipment and/or consumables necessary to establish or support a respiratory research project and/or contribute towards the applicant’s salary. The research must relate specifically to asbestos related diseases and be conducted in Australia or New Zealand. The mission of the Australian Podiatry Education and Research Foundation (APERF) is to support and facilitate research into foot and related problems. As such, the Foundation offers financial support for projects that are focussed on the causes, assessment, diagnosis, management and outcomes of foot and related problems. Further to this, the Foundation supports research into professional issues associated with podiatry and the provision of quality podiatric care. The APERF Grant is open to all people involved in foot and related research. However, weighting will be given to applications whose team includes podiatric representation, particularly as the primary applicant. Grants between $2,000 and $4,000 for novice researchers and $2,000 and $8,000 for experienced researchers will be available for projects. NARSAD's Young Investigator Award Program provides support for the most promising young scientists conducting neurobiological research. One and two year awards up to $30,000 per year are provided to enable promising investigators to either extend research fellowship training or begin careers as independent research faculty. Basic and/or clinical investigators are supported, but research must be relevant to serious psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, or child and adolescent psychiatric disorders. Please note that the Young Investigator Award review calendar has been restructured and NARSAD will begin accepting applications on December 1, 2009. The National Geographic Society/Waitt Grants Program, an initiative of the National Geographic Society and the Waitt Institute for Discovery, helps qualified and experienced individuals launch the most difficult stage of a project for which to secure funding—the search. Grants are made for exploratory fieldwork that holds promise for new breakthroughs in the natural and social sciences. NGS/Waitt Grants applications are processed throughout the year and grants are awarded expeditiously to help researchers take advantage of immediate opportunities. Funded through a five-year grant from the Waitt Family Foundation, the NGS/Waitt Grants Program is administered by National Geographic Mission Programs and makes approximately one hundred grants annually of $5,000 to $15,000. The Australia China Natural Gas Technology Partnership Fund provides opportunities for training, scholarships, research and technology transfer between China and Australia in the natural gas and LNG industry. It has a focus on increasing knowledge about the natural gas production-to-consumption chain including liquefaction, transport, re-gasification, distribution, engineering and procurement. The fund also fosters the development of long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships across the energy sector between Australia and China.
