The ADRF invites applications for grants from clinicians and trained researchers interested in undertaking a dental research project.

Grants shall be used to support investigations and research carried out within Australia by the person or persons specified in each award.

Research projects are assessed on the basis of scientific merit by the Research Advisory Committee (all members of which must be approved by the NHMRC). It is expected that projects will have direct or indirect bearing on the clinical practice of dentistry. The Committee’s deliberations are assisted by at least two external referee reports on each application. Final marks awarded identify those projects that will be recommended for funding. As available funds may not be sufficient to accommodate all recommended applications, the rank order of the applications based on final marks will be used to allocate funds in whole or in part. Applicants must be aware that poorly prepared and incomplete grant applications will not receive high marks, and applicants are encouraged to ensure grants are accurately completed and proof read prior to submission.

Submission
Please forward one original signed hardcopy application to the Research Branch, plus one electronic copy, accompanied by a signed and completed hardcopy of the University's Grant Application Coversheet.

World Community Grid invites public and not-for-profit organizations to apply to use its powerful grid technology at no cost for projects that benefit humanity. Grid technology enables researchers to access tremendous amounts of power, exceeding that of several supercomputers, to run complex computations and to accelerate the pace of their research. Research results must be made available to the global research community and will be made available on World Community Grid's web site.

World Community Grid is seeking proposals from research organizations interested in harnessing the immense power of Internet-connected computers to accelerate humanitarian research. Their goal is to support innovative efforts that will benefit most from this technology and promise to deliver significant results on the most pressing issues facing the global community. To meet this goal, World Community Grid plans to implement as many as five research projects per year.

World Community Grid supports research that is:

  • Focused on solving problems to benefit humanity;
  • Conducted by public or nonprofit organizations;
  • Contributed to the public domain; and
  • Accelerated by grid computing technology.

The purpose of this FOA is to encourage the submission of applications proposing to use human stem cells to develop methods for generating replacement cells and transplantation techniques for the treatment of ocular diseases and disorders. Studies may include elucidating the mechanisms required to direct stem cell differentiation into specialized ocular cell lineages. The regenerative application of human stem cells offers a promising way to restore lost vision due to injury and disease.  Many of the leading causes of visual and ocular disorders are due in part to the loss of photoreceptors, inner retinal neurons, or corneal epithelial cells.  Preliminary studies demonstrate that cell-based therapies may have the potential to treat ophthalmic diseases including corneal degeneration and inflammation, glaucoma, and vascular and neurodegenerative diseases of the retina.

This initiative will support basic and preclinical studies leading to the development of differentiated human stem cells for treating ocular diseases and disorders.  Studies may include (1) elucidating the mechanisms required to direct stem cell differentiation into specialized ocular cell lineages, (2) developing methods for the generation of replacement ocular cells and tissues, and (3) identifying factors required for optimal transplantation of stem cell-derived lineages, resulting in functional regeneration.

Only studies using human stem cells, including embryonic stem cells (hESC), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS), and adult stem cells, will be responsive to this announcement.  All human ES cell lines proposed for these studies must be listed in the NIH Human Embryonic Stem Cell Registry.  This program will not support animal stem cell research nor human clinical trials.

Funding
Applicants may request up to $250,000 annual direct costs.  Application budgets need to reflect actual needs of the proposed project.

The Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language maintenance and linguistic field work. The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics. Work which has immediate applicability to one group and more distant application to the other will also be considered. Publishing subventions are a low priority, although they will be considered. Proposals can originate in any country. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two. Endangerment is a continuum, and the location on the continuum is one factor in our funding decisions.

Receiving a Foundation grant is a highly competitive process and depends on the amount of available funding, the number of proposals for a given health issue or animal and donor interest. Grant proposals are accepted for small companion animals (dogs and cats), large companion animals (horses and llamas/alpacas) and wildlife. Proposals can be submitted online only.

Eligibility
Researchers and language activists from any country are eligible to apply. Awards can be made to institutions, but no administrative (overhead, indirect) costs are covered.

Funding
Grants are normally for a one year period, though extensions may be applied for. They expect grants in this round to be less than $USD 4,000 in size, and to average about $USD 2,000.

Submission - Request for Proposals
Please send a copy of your Proposal along with the completed University Grant Application Coversheet to Dr Don McMaster, by emailing don.mcmaster@adelaide.edu.au.

The Center for the History of Collecting was established in 2007 to stimulate awareness and study of the formation of fine and decorative arts collections from Colonial times to the present, while asserting the relevance of this subject to art and cultural history. The Center’s academic and public programs provide a forum for thoughtful exchange that may expand and further stimulate scholarship in this discipline. Through its Fellowship Program, the Center seeks not only to encourage research on the history of collecting, but also to expand the field’s still limited body of literature.

For nine months, select political scientists, journalists, doctors, federal executives and international scholars gain "hands on" understanding of the legislative process by serving on congressional staffs. Through this unique opportunity, the Association enhances public understanding of policy-making and improves the quality of scholarship, teaching and reporting on American national politics.

The Center offers short-term Junior fellowships (8–10 weeks) for graduate and pre-doctoral students and Senior fellowships (8–10 weeks) for post-doctoral and senior scholars. In addition the Center offers long-term (4–5 months) Leon Levy Fellowships for post-doctoral and senior scholars. In all cases preference will be given to researchers whose projects are particularly appropriate to the resources available at the Frick Art Reference Library.

Two short-term fellowships will be granted for Summer/Fall 2012 (June–October), one to a junior (pre-doctoral) scholar, and one to a senior (post-doctoral) scholar. Long-term Leon Levy Fellowships (one academic semester) will be granted for Summer/Fall 2012.

Eligibility
Fellowship proposals may address wide-ranging aspects of the history of collecting in the United States, from Colonial times to the present, and may focus on individual collectors, dealers, developments or trends in the art market. Interdisciplinary research subjects are especially encouraged. Applicants may come from the academic or museum worlds, or from other relevant professional backgrounds. They may be full- or part-time students, full- or part-time employees, or independent art historians, historians, and/or curators. Applicants may be residents of any country.

Funding
Each short-term fellowship for a junior scholar is $USD 5,000. Each short-term fellowship for a senior scholar is $USD 10,000. Each long-term Leon Levy Fellowship is $USD 25,000 per semester (with a maximum of two semesters) and is supplemented with travel funds up to $USD 1,250 (per semester) for brief research trips during the fellowship period.

Submission
It is a standard requirement for applicants to submit a hardcopy of finalised proposals to the Research Branch by the internal due date, accompanied by a completed and signed hardcopy of the University's Grant Application Coversheet.

Antarctica's isolation and inhospitable nature are considerable barriers to all but the few who can afford the high cost of visiting as a tourist, or to those scientists and support personnel who participate in national Antarctic programs.

As a way of informing and educating Australians about Antarctica and Australia's activities there, the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) administers the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship enabling those with a non-science focus to experience Antarctica first-hand so that they may communicate this unique experience and understanding to other Australians.

Funding
The Fellowship takes the form of either a berth on a ship or an intercontinental flight to Antarctica and associated logistical support ie, food, accommodation and transport. The AAD also provides cold-weather clothing on loan.

Eligibility
Each year, the AAD invites applications from two main groups:

  • artists, researchers, filmmakers and writers with a demonstrated track record
  • talented emerging artists and writers from the creative arts, humanities and social sciences

The program aims to nurture the production of excellent and significant works of art and interpretation by leading professionals and talented emerging artists and writers.

Successful proposals are eligible to receive between $10,000 and $30,000 per year but larger grants may be considered if the proposed project has exceptional conservation and scientific merit. Funding will be provided for projects for up to three years, with all work and payments completed by the end of April 2014.

AMMC encourages applicants to identify and include co-funding opportunities.

Eligibility
Applications must be submitted by a research organisation or institution and not by an individual.

The IPCF supports research by investigators based at the following organisations:

  • universities and other tertiary education institutions
  • state museums and state-funded institutions
  • bodies subject to the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997, such as the CSIRO
  • international organisations and governments from developing countries

Submission
Applications follow a two step process. Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be reviewed by AMMC steering committee. Detailed applications will then be requested from highly ranked EOI's and a final set of projects selected for funding.

Please forward one original signed hardcopy application to the Research Branch, plus one electronic copy, accompanied by a signed and completed hardcopy of the University's Grant Application Coversheet.

The Australian Marine Mammal Centre Grants Program has limited funds and competition for these funds is high. To be eligible for an AMMC Grant, projects should contribute to the AMMC research priorities. These research priorities demonstrate the need to focus on applied questions relevant to conservation management. Applicants must ensure that conservation managers will be able to use their research to minimise negative consequences of interactions between humans and marine mammals.

The Australian Marine Mammal Centre Grants Program is open to both public and private bodies and individuals. Overseas research organisations and researchers are eligible to receive AMMC Grant funding if the project proposed must be directly related to the science and conservation management of Australian marine mammals. Grant recipients from previous grants rounds may apply for this round.

Student eligibility:

1.1 No postgraduate-student will be sole Chief Investigator

1.2 A postgraduate student may be a Chief Investigator provided they have a Supervisor as Primary Chief Investigator

Funding
Funding for the 2012 round will be considered for periods between 1 and 2 years, and the proposed work must be completed by April 2014. It is important to note that commitments of funding for multiple years will limit future funds available for new projects. The AMMC will endeavour to ensure that no greater than 40% of funding in forward years is allocated against multi-year funding. It is anticipated that the grant scheme will have a total value of approximately $1,070,000 for the 2012/13 year.

Submission
Please forward one original signed hardcopy application to the Research Branch, plus one electronic copy, accompanied by a signed and completed hardcopy of the University's Grant Application Coversheet.
