A final report which was prepared for the “Showcasing Research Data” project is available to University of Adelaide staff at the following link:
http://www.adelaide.edu.au/library/researchdata/
This report presents the high level requirements for a University of Adelaide research data repository and metadata store, based on the findings from interviews with individuals from the University of Adelaide’s research community. Interviews were conducted in 2011 and 2012. Interview questions sought individuals’ views on the potential benefits and specific functionality requirements of a research data repository and metadata store.
The report presents the findings of the interviews and makes recommendations based on themes that emerged during the analysis of responses. The interview responses revealed strong support for the development of a repository and metadata store. The responses indicate that storage is a key issue for consideration. Interviewees also cited the ability to locate, share and reuse data as key drivers. The necessity for quality metadata underpinning a repository was also a recurring theme.

The primary goal of the DARPA Robotics Challenge program is to develop ground robotic capabilities to execute complex tasks in dangerous, degraded, human-engineered environments. The program will focus on robots that can utilize available human tools, ranging from hand tools to vehicles.
The program aims to advance the key robotic technologies of supervised autonomy, mounted mobility, dismounted mobility, dexterity, strength, and platform endurance. Supervised autonomy will be developed to allow robot control by non-expert operators, to lower operator workload, and to allow effective operation despite low fidelity (low bandwidth, high latency, intermittent) communications.
In the DARPA Robotics Challenge, robots will compete with each other performing disaster response operations in representative scenarios that will likely include the following sequence of events:
- Drive a utility vehicle at the site
- Travel dismounted across rubble
- Remove debris blocking an entryway
- Open a door and enter a building
- Climb an industrial ladder and traverse an industrial walkway
- Use a tool to break through a concrete panel
- Locate and close a valve near a leaking pipe
- Replace a component such as a cooling pump
These are representative tasks and will likely be updated based on detailed future planning that will take into account safety, cost, performance, operational capabilities and needs.
Funding
Total amount of money to be awarded is up to US $34 million. Multiple awards are anticipated
Eligibility
Collaborative efforts/teaming are encouraged. Specific content, communications, networking, and team formation are the sole responsibility of the participants.

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate the partnering of pain scientists and non-pain neuroscientists from the field of neural plasticity to capture insights and expertise from disciplines where transitions from health to disease have been extensively examined.
An expected outcome of this FOA will be the formation of partnerships between pain researchers and non-pain neuroscientists to develop new collaborations focused on understanding the maladaptive neuroplastic changes that occur during the transition from acute to chronic pain.
It is anticipated that these initial collaborations will lead to new applications for highly innovative projects centred on similar studies of the transition from acute to chronic pain.

The “Security, Society, and the State” research programme targets new security-related issues that are prime examples of the post-Cold-War era but have been largely neglected in mainstream research.
The programme is intended to encourage junior scholars to pursue unconventional research agendas that are nonetheless crucial, while providing senior scholars with the opportunity to focus intensively on work in progress for a limited period. Moreover, the objective is to combine basic theoretical research with concepts that are applicable to present-day political issues of security policy.
Eligibility
Proposals are invited for existing research projects. The Foundation generally only accepts applications for research project grants from postdoctoral scholars at universities, other research institutes, or comparable institutions. The applicants must be actively involved in the research work of the project.
Funding
The maximum amount of funding is € 100.000 per project application. Applications for limited travel and material grants only will not be accepted.
The grants for research projects involve, depending on the type of project, research and PhD fellowships for project participants, travel and material expenses as well as academic conferences and workshops. The costs incurred by visiting (foreign) scholars can also be financed as part of a research project.

Funding & Duration
