The information sessions are open to all interested parties. They will clearly explain the application requirements (including how to use the CRC impact tool) and the assessment process.

The information session will provide other general information about the CRC program and include information regarding possible state or territory government assistance. A CRC Association representative will also deliver a presentation and share their experiences with the program and previous selection rounds.

In addition to the information sessions, the department will be available to meet individually with potential applicants or interested parties to provide more direct feedback and information. These sessions (held the same day in the afternoon) are limited so bookings are essential.

Selection Round Application Pack

Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation is the research arm of Alzheimer’s Australia. Through its annual grants program, AADRF funds research aiming for improvements in diagnosis, management, and care, for the prevention and delay of dementia.

Dementia Research Foundation’s Project Grants are intended as seeding grants to help post-doctoral investigators establish their careers as independent dementia researchers. Grants are awarded to projects in any discipline of dementia research areas, from biological to psychosocial.

Funding & Duration
The project grants are valued at up to $50,000 (exclusive of GST) for a period of 12 months.

Eligibility
Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia and have been awarded (or notified of success of their application for) a PhD or equivalent degree (e.g. MD by research) in the last three years.

The Principal Investigator (i.e., the person making the application for funding) must be a New Investigator. For the purposes of this program, a New Investigator is defined as “a researcher who has never been a principal investigator on a successful research grant worth more than $50,000.”

A Project Grant is an award made in support of either a biomedical or social and applied research project within an Australian institution proposed by an appropriately qualified investigator.

The award of project grants is MSRA’s main avenue for the support of research relevant to multiple sclerosis in universities, hospitals or other recognised research institutions. Since these awards will normally be made for a period of two or three years only, the purpose is primarily to assist investigations in which considerable progress can be expected over this or a shorter period.

Funding & Duration
Grant-in-aid funding available, typically for no more than $30,000 - $140,000 per annum, and up to 3 years. MSRA does not intend to provide long term salaries for support staff.

Eligibility
Successful applicants for this Award will need to have strong experience in MS research.

The NHMRC Partnerships for Better Health – Projects (Partnership Projects) provide funding and support to create new opportunities for researchers and policy makers to work together, in order to define research questions, and undertake research and also to interpret and implement the findings relevant to the delivery, organisation, funding and access to health services.  These research topics are investigator initiated.

The application deadline for the first call for NHMRC Partnerships for Better Health – Partnership Projects 2013 is 23 April 2013.
NHMRC has changed the arrangements for this scheme to allow applicants to apply at any time during the year rather than through just one annual round.

Funding & Duration
This is a category 1 funding scheme, listed on the 2012 Australian Competitive Grants Register (ACGR).
Projects may be of any duration up to five (5) years and the maximum amount of NHMRC funding that may be requested for a single application is $1.5 million.

The APEC Research Grants were established in 2007 to support and advance research in the fields of Paediatric Endocrinology Care. The program has been designed to promote excellence in medical research throughout Australasia. It seeks to encourage and help develop the best of our young clinical researchers and extend Pfizer Australia’s commitment and contribution to medicine and the health of our community.

Funding & Duration
Pfizer Australia will allocate AUD $150,000 per annum to this initiative as part of our continued commitment to Paediatric Endocrinology research. Individual grants will be available up to AUD $55,000 (including GST). Each grant is for a period of 12 months.

Eligibility
APEC Grants are designed to encourage young researchers to enter or continue in the field of Paediatric Endocrinology. Therefore, applicants must be under 40 years of age at the time of applying and a trainee in Paediatric Endocrinology in Australasia or within five years of conferring of Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or within five years of accreditation of Paediatric Endocrinology training from the Endocrinology SAC (Royal Australian College of Physicians). Applications will not be accepted from senior researchers.

The AW Howard Memorial Trust was established by the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science (now AIAST) in 1964 to commemorate the unique contribution of Amos Howard in the use of subterranean clover as a pasture plant in Australia. The aim of the Trust is to encourage and promote research and investigation in the fields of natural science and social science, including economics which relate to the development, management and use of pastures.

The AW Howard Memorial Trust Inc awards on merit and need Grants-in-Aid to Australian organisations, associations, communities or persons that seek financial aid for projects designed to either:

• Commemorate significant contributions made to pastoral sciences or pastoral industries at National, State or Regional scales;
• Facilitate effective dissemination and publication of innovative science and extension relevant to the development, management and use of pastures within Australia or within Australian regions;
• Invite an eminent overseas pasture scientist to visit Australia to deliver a keynote address at an Australian, International or Regional conference and/or to visit major regional centres to interact with scientists and community groups involved in pastoral industries; or
• Contribute towards the purchase of essential equipment required for research and development projects in the field of pastoral sciences.

The Cooperative Research Centres (CRC) program is an Australian Government Initiative administered by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education. The CRC program supports end user driven research collaborations to address major challenges facing Australia.

Submission
The University of Adelaide’s internal Expression of Interest form for participation in Round 16, whether a new bid or rebid,  is to be submitted to Dr Don McMaster (don.mcmaster@adelaide.edu.au) in the Research Branch by COB Friday 1 March 2013. Once this is received the University internal process can begin and all available assistance can be provided.

The anticipated submission deadline for final proposals is mid July 2013. Once details have been released by DIISRTE, the Research Branch CRC website will be updated to reflect the Round 16 process.

The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering invites applications from Australian and Chinese researchers from research institutions and industry to apply for funding to contribute towards short-term and long-term exchanges, workshops and symposia, to develop Australia-China collaborations, to build critical mass in low-emission coal collaboration and support the development of enduring partnerships.

Funding & Duration
ATSE will manage the competitive call in Feb/Mar 2013, in consultation with China's Huaneng Energy Research Institute (CERI), to support:

1. short term exchanges and secondments (up to 14 days) between Australia and China for Australian and Chinese Research and Industry Representatives to undertake cooperation in LECT. Successful applicants will receive up to AUD $5,000 per person to contribute towards travel and living expenses.
   
   
2. long term exchanges and secondments (up to 9 months) between Australia and China for Australian and Chinese Research and Industry Representatives to undertake cooperation in LECT. Successful applicants will receive up to AUD $30,000 to contribute towards travel and living expenses.
   
   
3. bilateral workshops and symposia between Australian and Chinese Research Institutions and/or Industry in Australia and China. Successful applicants will receive funding to contribute towards travel, living expenses, and some workshop costs. A maximum of $35,000 per workshop or symposium held in Australia, and $35,000 for workshops or symposiums held in China.

The AICC Grants Program provides funding for international arts and cultural projects that align with the objectives of the AICC. The program is not a typical arts funding program in that it is not primarily concerned with supporting artists and companies to tour internationally to develop their work. The program’s focus is on specific cultural relations objectives that contribute to advancing Australia’s foreign and trade policy priorities and enhance understanding of Australia overseas.

Priority Regions
The AICC Grants Program focuses on priority regions which reflect Australia's broad public diplomacy and foreign and trade policy interests. Applications must be for cultural diplomacy projects incorporating activities in priority regions. The AICC's priority regions, in order of priority, are:

• Asia (from India to Indonesia to Mongolia)
• South Pacific
• Middle East and Africa
• the Americas and Western Europe

Funding
Funding is capped at AUD $40,000 per application. Funding is intended to encourage partnerships with other areas of government, corporate sponsors and private donors, and applicants will normally be expected to demonstrate that they are seeking assistance from other sources.

Individual artists and professional arts and culture workers are eligible to apply. Individual applicants must be Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health, encourages Research Project Grant (DP3) applications from institutions/organisations proposing original research addressing the development of new technologies that may be integrated in a wearable, portable, automated, closed loop system for a physiological glucose control in individuals who suffer of Type 1 Diabetes.

Purpose of Grant
This opportunity is for the molecular analyses of stored biospecimens from the Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) project. Applicants are encouraged to address compelling scientific questions with molecular phenotypes that add value to the resource and take full advantage of the unique features of GTEx.

Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size of each award will also vary. Scope of the proposed project should determine the project period. NIH expects to make 2- and 3-year awards. The maximum period is 3 years.

Studies involving multiple viruses are encouraged to foster discovery of novel immune mechanisms and generalizable principles of anti-viral immunity.

The viruses of interest to the Immune Mechanisms of Virus Control (IMVC) program are listed as part of the NIAID Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases. The ultimate goal of this program is to discover and define novel basic immune mechanisms for controlling virus infections that will lead to new potential targets for developing future vaccines and therapeutics.

The Australian National Preventive Health Agency (ANPHA) invites talented researchers, in either research career positions or preventive health systems positions, to apply for its Preventive Health Research Fellowships due to commence by June 2013.

The purpose of the Preventive Health Research Fellowship Program is to enable preventive health knowledge development and exchange between researchers and policy/program officers to the benefit of both parties. The Program will directly provide for development and translation of evidence related to ANPHA’s work program and wider national preventive health program development.

Funding & Duration
Funding is capped at $600,000 (excluding GST) for the total research project over three years with a maximum of $200,000 per annum. Included within each Fellowship is $50,000 per annum for project costs. ANPHA is awarding up to three full-time Fellowships for researchers where the proposed research will be undertaken for two years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for another year.

Eligibility
Only researchers who have substantial policy and practice experience in the identified priority areas are eligible to receive funding. The key objective for the research program undertaken by the Research Fellow is to support the development, implementation, evaluation and scaling-up of evidence-informed health promotion and health risk reduction strategies for population groups across a lifespan and in a range of settings, with a focus on obesity, harmful use of alcohol or tobacco smoking.

WADA promotes and funds, on a yearly basis, scientific projects in the anti-doping field covering the development or optimisation of analytical tools for the detection and/or quantification of doping substances or methods, as well as the pharmacology of such substances and the ergogenic effects of specific substances/methods or group of substances on athletic performance.

WADA gives high priority to projects with direct and imminent applicability in the fight against doping in sport and less preference to basic research projects. Special attention will be given to projects addressing:

The Churchill Trust was established in 1965 to honour the memory of Sir Winston Churchill by awarding overseas research Fellowships known as 'Churchill Fellowships'. Churchill Fellowships allow you to design your own research project, travel the world and further your knowledge in your chosen field, before returning to make a real contribution to Australian society.

Funding
The value of every Fellowship is different as it is calculated based on the number of countries visited, the duration of the approved Fellowship and an estimated airfare. The average is currently well in excess of $20,000.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for a Churchill Fellowship you must:

• be an Australian Citizen over the age of 18
• not be enrolled in tertiary studies directly related to the topic of your proposed project
• have experience in and commitment to the field of your project
• have a project of between 4 weeks and approximately 6 weeks length that requires overseas investigation
• be willing to disseminate the results of your research to the broader Australian community; AND
• not have been awarded a Churchill Fellowship in the past.

Normal merit beamtime applications are the standard method to apply for beamtime at the Australian Synchrotron and approximately 50% of beamtime is awarded to merit proposal applications. Foundation investor beamtime is only open to applicants from the 11 foundation investor (FI) consortia members and makes up approximately 30% of the time available (i.e. approximately 3% per FI consortium).

This opportunity is issued by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) in collaboration with the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), at the National Institutes of Health. It invites Research Project Grant (R01) applications to study the potential mechanisms of action of promising CAM natural products (NPs).

Natural products are widely used by Americans for health purposes. Knowledge about the active components, their molecular and cellular targets, as well as markers of potential beneficial or harmful biological effects, are critical pieces of preliminary information needed to insure maximally informative clinical efficacy studies on these products.

Research on the development of improved methodology for the isolation and characterisation of constituents of natural products and on their determination in the natural matrix will also be supported under this initiative.

Funding & Duration
Budgets for direct costs of up to US $300,000 per year, and a project duration of up to five years may be requested for a maximum of US $1,500,000 direct costs over a five-year project period.

The AICC Grants Program provides funding for international arts and cultural projects that align with the objectives of the AICC. The program is not a typical arts funding program in that it is not primarily concerned with supporting artists and companies to tour internationally to develop their work. The program’s focus is on specific cultural relations objectives that contribute to advancing Australia’s foreign and trade policy priorities and enhance understanding of Australia overseas.

Priority Regions
The AICC Grants Program focuses on priority regions which reflect Australia's broad public diplomacy and foreign and trade policy interests. Applications must be for cultural diplomacy projects incorporating activities in priority regions. The AICC's priority regions, in order of priority, are:

Funding
