Minimum Application Data – Project Grants The NHMRC has reported that, as at the beginning of February 2013, only 39% of the new Project Grant applications in RGMS (for funding commencing in 2014) had any keywords associated with the application. To assist the NHMRC with planning for peer review, CIA’s are requested to complete the A-RC: Research Classification section of the application as soon as possible after the application is commenced.
Clarification of Percentage NHMRC Research Time – Project Grants The wording of Percentage NHMRC Research Time in the NHMRC Project Grants Advice and Instructions to Applicants for funding commencing in 2014 differs from Section A-RT Proposed Workload of the RGMS application form. Applicants are advised to complete this section as requested in RGMS and disregard this section of the Advice and Instructions.
Deleting Applications in RGMS – All Schemes Applicants who decide not to proceed with applications are asked to mark them for deletion on the ‘Application Detail - Part A’ front page. It is no longer necessary to flag this in the title or to notify the Research Help Centre.

The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) was incorporated in February 1992. Its mission statement is "to serve the community by fostering safety and high quality patient care in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and pain medicine."
The NHMRC provides the opportunity for individuals or research teams to obtain support for research projects in all fields of public health, medicine and dentistry in Australia, through the Project Grant and Fellowship schemes. In New Zealand the HRC serves an equivalent role. ANZCA aims to supplement, complement, and in some cases act as an alternative to NHMRC/HRC. Wherever possible ANZCA encourages applicants to also apply to HRC or NHMRC, or to the appropriate body in their home country.

Purpose of Grant
This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is intended to appeal to a broad audience of alcohol and HIV/AIDS researchers, including:
- alcohol researchers with no prior experience in HIV/AIDS research but with a keen appreciation for the relationship between problem drinking and HIV/AIDS and a strong interest in acquiring such experience.

The primary objectives for this announcement are to increase research:
- To characterise the relative importance of reducing alcohol misuse in the prevention of acquisition and transmission of HIV in order to identify and apply appropriate alcohol and HIV interventions as public health measures
- To more fully understand and prevent the progression of HIV disease in the presence of continued alcohol exposure; and
- To develop operational research frameworks for addressing the occurrence and persistence of infections in high-risk populations (e.g. minority women, young gay men, etc.), and translate findings into effective, culturally appropriate preventive and treatment interventions for these targeted populations.

The opportunity uses the R01 Research Project Grant (R01) funding mechanism.
Purpose of Grant The purpose of this opportunity is to inform the scientific community of the pain research interests of the various Institutes and Centers (ICs) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and to stimulate and foster a wide range of basic, clinical, and translational studies on pain as they relate to the missions of these ICs. New advances are needed in every area of pain research, from the micro perspective of molecular sciences to the macro perspective of behavioural and social sciences. Although great strides have been made in some areas, such as the identification of neural pathways of pain, the experience of pain and the challenge of treatment have remained uniquely individual and unsolved.

The opportunity uses the U19 Research Program - Cooperative Agreements (U19) funding mechanism.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) invites multi-project applications to be part of a network of synergistic research teams focused on the immunological parameters of virus infection and vaccination that are important for understanding the key molecular and cellular immune mechanisms involved in the natural control of infection, the induction of protective immunity by vaccination, or the immune-mediated processes that cause pathology after virus infection or vaccination.
Studies involving multiple viruses are encouraged to foster discovery of novel immune mechanisms and generalizable principles of anti-viral immunity.
The viruses of interest to the Immune Mechanisms of Virus Control (IMVC) program are listed as part of the NIAID Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases. The ultimate goal of this program is to discover and define novel basic immune mechanisms for controlling virus infections that will lead to new potential targets for developing future vaccines and therapeutics.
Funding & Duration Application budgets are limited to US $1.5 million direct costs per year, but need to reflect actual needs of the proposed project. The scope of the proposed project should determine the project period, however the maximum period is five years.
