ARC Discovery Projects - Grant Appreciation: Module 1- Track Record, September 2007

This short course aimed at shaping fresh research idea into a winning and tasteful blend for the ARC palate.  Module 1 examined the concept of ‘Track Record’ and how to impart the best flavour to this key selection criterion.

ARC Discovery Projects Information Session, November 2006

Time and Date: 1pm - 2pm, Wednesday, 22 November 2006
Place: Equinox Room, Level 4 Union House, North Terrace Campus The DVC(R) Professor Alan Johnson presented an information session for those wishing to apply for an ARC Discovery Project in 2007. Current member of the ARC College of Experts, A/Professor Jeff Schwartz, and ARC Federation Fellow and past member of the College of Experts, Professor Graeme Hugo also talked and shared their invaluable knowledge and experience. After the presentation and questions A/Professor Jeff Schwartz continued with a session regarding Biological and Biomedical Research Funding by the ARC. The ARC funds basic biological research, even research with a biomedical endpoint. However, the applicability of the research and the presentation of the proposal are different for ARC versus NHMRC. In an effort to prevent local investigators from missing out on valid funding opportunities. A/Professor Schwartz discussed ARC perspectives on biomedical type research. ARC Linkage Projects Information Session

Research Branch presented a session on the ARC Linkage Project Scheme on Wednesday 16 August 2006, 12.30 - 2pm in the Council Room, Level 7, Wills Building. Grants in this scheme involve collaboration with industry partners and the ARC matching their in-kind and cash contributions. "Strategies for Winning Research Grants" Information Session

The DVC(R), Professor Alan Johnson, held a series of information sessions entitled "Strategies for Winning Research Grants". The first session was held at the North Terrace Campus on Tuesday 25th July from 1:00 to 3:30pm in the Equinox Function Room, Level 4, Union House. The second session was held at the Waite Campus, Monday 4 September 2006, 11:00am to 1:30pm in the SARDI Auditorium - Level 4, Plant Research Centre. The State We Are In - State Strategic Plans Seminar, November 2006

The State Government had developed a range of strategic plans that it uses to assess new initiatives and co-investment opportunities. For researchers who want to seek funding or partnership from state government for new research ideas, it is important that they are fully aware of these plans, and can identify how their research will help deliver against the state's strategic objectives. The Research Clusters of the University of Adelaide and Research Branch presented a Seminar that outlined the key strategic planning documents for the State Government of South Australia. The seminar was held on 2:00pm-4:00pm Friday 2 June 2006. Prof. Robert Farhi, Science and Technology Attaché at the French Embassy presented information on the FEAST-France Network and French-Australian Cooperation Tools on Friday 18 November. ARC & NHMRC Thinking Systems Roadshow, September 2005

The Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) collaborated to develop a new initiative, Thinking Systems, which will progress the Australian Government's National Research Priority goals for Breakthrough Science and Frontier Technologies under the National Research Priority Frontier Technologies for Building and Transforming Australian Industries. The roadshow was held on Tuesday 20 September 2005 at 10am in the Theatre S3 Teletheatre in the IST Building at Flinders University. Presentation available
