The first volume of the minutes was returned to the University by Dr Harry Medlin, who described in July 2004 the discovery of the volume as follows:
"Sometime around 1973, I had a telephone call from (the now late) Mr Horst Salomon. He invited me to call to his development business in Franklin Street as he had something he considered important to give me.
On arrival, I found it to be the first minute book of the Adelaide University Union. Horst told me that he had found it in an abandoned house in North Adelaide. It was the only material in that house and was on the floor of the front room.
Horst gave me the book which is now part of the collection of the University of Adelaide Archives"

The records consist of the official signed minutes of the Union including the General Committee, Finance Committee and House Committee. Each committee is separately indexed.

The records consist of indexed signed minutes of special meetings, annual general meetings, special committee meetings and annual reports of the Union. There is also a copy of the Union constitution as approved 2 July 1957. Committees include Union House Committee, Cafeteria Committee, Regulations Sub Committee, Sports Association Sub Committee, Debating Sub Committee, Publications Committee, Ball Committee, On Dit Sub Committee. There are records relating to the dissolution of the Students Representative Council and affiliation of the Women Graduates Union
