This item has the minutes of the Board of Management of the Urrbrae Agricultural High School Memorial Fund Inc. Urrbrae Award. The Award was presented annually to a person who made an outstanding contribution to Australian Agriculture. The Prize was $1,000 and a gold medal. The awards were made as a public memorial to those students who served in the 1939-1945 war. The emphasis for the award is placed on innovation, value to the industry, and acceptance by the agricultural community.

This item holds the correspondence between Australia Post and Roseworthy College in relation to the Colleges centenary celebrations. There are a number of mock ups of marketing options and copies of the final products. These products included a pre-stamped envelope with a student in the laboratory, a cow and tractor in an arch with Centenary of Agricultural Colleges in Australia 1983. The College on Display for 1983 for the Centenary Celebrations has memos, an advertisement and the map of the campus with details. There is a list of staff responsible for events, and a detailed list from the Faculty of Oenology of staff roles for the day. There are minutes for the College on Display Day held on 14 February 1983. The minutes for the Public Relations Committee meeting with the Deans of Faculties 2 May 1983. For 1985 there are memos regarding the arrangements. The program has a three dimensional map and the timetable for the day. A detailed action sheet for the day and a report on the outcomes of the day.

Contains an extensive list of the items to be placed in the time capsule, include a number of bottles of port, stamps, coins, seeds, photographs of the College and an array of farm and college equipment. There is however no history of the College but there are a number of documents, student and staff list, publications, information sheets about aspects of the College. The Capsule is made of stainless steel and is 500mm long and 350mm in diameter. The capsule was placed near the Chapel on graduation day in 1976.

Arrangements for the Colleges participation in the 150 Jubilee Celebrations for South Australia in 1986. The College proposed that the Agricultural Museum of Australian temperate -zone, which had started to collect items, could be considered for funding for the 150 Jubilee. There are some details about the twin cities campaign with Austin Texas which was also celebrating it's 150 year - Roseworthy suggested that they would be best linked with the Kingsville and Texas A and I University in Austin which was establishing an Oenology Department. There is a report on the visit to the University in Texas written by Bruce Eastick as a diary, who visited the University after Gill Hollamby. There is a news item about the 1986 World Three Day Horse Championships at Gawler and the Colleges role in the event. The wine faculty arranged a symposium for the celebration. There are minutes from the District Council of Light Committee for the 150 Jubilee arrangements.

Contains detailed accounts of the Lincoln Red Shorthorn Cattle which were donated to the State Government and then came to the College in 1922. This item is made up of vineyard statistics which were sent to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The areas which applied to Roseworthy were the type of grapes grown and the area of land they occupied and how many tones were used for wine making or distilling.

This item contains a series of forms sent to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The statistics forms are sent several times a year but there does not seem to be a regular pattern to the requests. The information sought related to the amount of grapes crushed and total sales of wine.

This item is the papers of the Committee set up to investigate and report to Council on ways to reduce expenditure in order to provide for a balanced recurrent accounts. The committee meet from September to October 1979. They reported back to the Council in October which was forwarded with explanation to the Minister of Education Harold Allison.

This item deals with the intellectual exchange between Roseworthy Agricultural College and the Agricultural College No. 1 Hanoi. Director Barrie Thistlewayte visited the No 1 Hanoi College of Agriculture for an introductory meeting and the signing of an agreement on the types of exchange the Colleges would engage in.

The terms of reference were to protect all students rights and privileges, and this will be achieved at the expense of those who abuse those rights and privileges. The committee was assembled as required.

This item details the position of the College in regard to the Sections 405, 505 and part Section 408 Hundreds of Muddla Wirra. When The Agricultural College Act 1936-1940 was repeal by the Roseworthy Agricultural Act 1973 Effect upon "The Commissioner for Agricultural Endowments" there was a question of the land that was available to the College. There is a list of the Sections that the College Holds in the Crown Lands Office, but there is a question as to Sections 405, 505, 408. The Crown Solicitor advised that under the existing Roseworthy Agricultural College Act 1973, is introduced, a provision be included abolishing the body politic and corporate under the name of the Commissioner for Agricultural Endowments. and vesting in the College all powers, right, liabilities and responsibilities previously vested in the Minister of Agriculture in the capacity as The Commissioner for Agricultural Endowments. The Agricultural Minister advised that when the Roseworthy Agricultural Act 1973 was amended in the future the Minister of Agriculture's role should be remove as the College was now under the Minister of Education.

This item is the record of Ancillary Staff salaries increase. There is correspondence between the College and the Public Service Association, threaten struck action and internal memos. The College and Ancillary Staff appears before Industrials Commission.

This item covers the joint planning between Roseworthy Agricultural College and Trinity College in Gawler. The plan appears to be that the Trinity College Gawler would provide secondary agricultural teaching that could naturally lead to Roseworthy, there is a report to this effect. There is a newspaper article "Share farming by colleges" when the colleges announced their agreements.

This item deals with the University of Adelaide's review of governance. Roseworthy nominated as the only representative Dr Barbara Wilson for the committee. The Terms of Reference about Adelaide University governance included the role of the Vice Chancellor and the Senior levels, the role of the Registry, planning, information Management, accountability and the role of the Senate. There is a Review of Governments Final Report 1990 July is on file.

This item is the minutes of the Student Appeals Committee started on 6 April 1981. The Terms of Reference the appellant puts her case, verbally and with documents, clarification from the appellant and the Faculty, and appellants right of reply and the Committee discussions take place in private. The majority of the file deals with the appeals and internal correspondence from the Council. In 1985 a Policy and Procedure on Student Appeals was put in place.

The Student Union at Roseworthy questioned the ability of students to make complaints regarding staff, this was put to the Council for consideration. The Student Union requested that the College set up a ad hoc committee to deal with these issues with three student members the complaint should be put in writing and have been taken to the Student Counselor, President of the Student Union or the Equal Opportunity Officer. A procedure for making a complaint were formalized.

The Michael Working Party Report and approved by the Council that a Course Advisory Committees be established in 1981. It was agreed that the advisory committee would be made up of people from the College and other educations institutions and the industry. In 1984 there is a list of the members.

The fees charged by Roseworthy to students for the year. The first costs only covered the entrance deposit, rent, student fees, educational tours and text books. In 1980 there is a breakdown of the student fees, entrance deposit, student Union fee, insurance, and Community Club Membership. In 1985 re-enrollment or graduation would not be permitted unless all monies owed were paid including accommodation, enrolment, late fees, fines, student loans, livery and veterinary charges and power charges. In 1988 the charges for the full fee courses would cost $12,000 and RBAG $13,300 in the Agricultural Faculty, The Wine Faculty charges ranged from $12,500 down to $8,600, Natural Resources Courses ranged from $13,300 to $8,600. These full fee where for overseas students. There is some material from other Colleges financial information for comparison.

The Academic Staff Association Papers deal with there relations to Roseworthy College and the Public Service Association in regard to there conditions of service and wage structures and staffing levels. There are some agreements made in the Industries\al Commission, most of these are for Colleges of Advanced Education.

In 1976 Roseworthy College had 600 Ancillary Staff and this file deals with their conditions of services, staff numbers, castings, wages, in comparison to other Colleges of Advance Education. Hay Associates were engaged to carry out this comparison of the colleges to establish a consistency in the way the ancillary staff pay and conditions are dealt with. There is no final report on file from Hay Associated although there is mention of it in a paper 11 and 15 May 1979 covering the implications of the report. The subsequent papers deal with the question arising from 1979 dealing with ancillary staff wages and condition and interpretations of the Hay Report.

Roseworthy Agricultural College industrial agreement with the Australian Government Workers Association after 1972 when the College became a College of Advanced Education. There is the signed document of the first agreement. There are many drafts and correspondence in regard to changes or adherence to the agreement. There is a summons to attend the Industrial Commission in 1976. Changes were made to the pay rates to bring them in line with similar jobs under other awards. In 1978 document covers the industrial agreement the College has with all the unions on campus.

This Committee of Joint Industrial covers the College of Advanced Education issues with the Amalgamated Mental Workers Union, Australian Government Workers Union, Miscellaneous Workers' Union, Amalgamated Society of Carpenters, Printing and Kindred Industries Union and Joiners of Australia. There are copies of the agreement the Roseworthy College has made since 1974. The Committee meet at Roseworthy in 1974 with members from SA I T (South Australian Institute of Technology, Advance Colleges at Murray Park, Adelaide, Strut, Torrens, Kingston and Salisbury and BAE (?). The meetings were held at different venues.

The Terms of Reference for the Working Party on Post Secondary Rural Education were to examine the role rural education plays in the developing economic and socially viable rural industries and communities, Identify the rural education and training needs, rural women, and communities, and to recommend specific action which can be taken to meet the needs of rural communities, and increasing participation in tertiary education. There is a submission to the Ministers of Primary Industry and Education from the Agricultural Colleges including Roseworthy. BNR Clarke Rural Post-Secondary Education report 1987. There is the report of the Working Party on Post-Secondary Rural Education dated November 1987 which was sent to Roseworthy in January 1988.

The Director Barrie Thistlethwayte sent a administrative Circular 12/83 on the distribution of income from short courses, seminars, sale of publications, consulting and other similar income generating activities of staff. The Graphic Artists and Printers undertake work for groups on campus like the SUC Football Club winery, as well as outside work for Rotary, Apex, Primary School the labour and material cost were to be distributed at the rate of 50% to the General Services Department Staff Development Fund. The rest of the papers deal with similar splits of payment for workshops and seminars.

The file starts with a series of news clippings dealing with the posed induction of Student Taxes, as recommended by the Wran Report, which is also on file. There are responses to the report from different bodies on campus and a media release about the financial disadvantages for rural students, which was reported in a newspaper.

Summer Red was released in December 1978, for the surplus red wine in Australia which should be refreshing, low in alcohol, slightly effervescent, rather acid and having a fruity flavor with some sweetness. Council member Mr. W.F. Nankivell, M.P. presented the wine to the South Australian Wineries and Wine Merchants Association. There is a copy of the label with a drawing of the main building with Roseworthy Red for a 1125 ml bottle. There is the media release. The name registration is on file. This file deals with the options available in regard to the Commonwealth Tertiary Education Commission findings on the under funding of the superannuating in the tertiary sector. Roseworthy was involved with the meeting held in August 1982 to address this issue. Roseworthy signed up for the National Superannuating Plan. Due to the Merger with Adelaide University those funds held in the Sate Superannuating Scheme could be preserved to enable them to join SSAU.

This is a memo from R E Smart to Dr Rankine about the Viticulture Departments situation with staff and facilities.

Sonya Martin entered the Miss Australia Quest as Miss Roseworthy Agricultural College. Miss Sonya Martin was a student in the third year of our Agriculture Diploma course. Sonya reached the semi finals of the Miss South Australia. Sonya Martin also attended with Miss South Australia the launch of the release of Roseworthy Late Picked Frontigan on 28 th July 1982. The wine label was designed for the Centenary of the Roseworthy College in 1983. Fortunately this was the only entrant in this activity.

There is a memo on the sheep research and development and a proposal by Dr. B K Taylor Senior Lecturer, Horticulture that the Viticulture and Horticulture departments should amalgamate. The memo is noted by H Reimins Acting Head of School Agriculture to the effect that he agrees with the suggestion.

A Paper by R E Wilson, Gill Hollamby and A Bayraktar Breeding for Resistance and tolerance to Cereal Cyst Nematode In Wheat.

This file covers the loan of farm Machinery to the College both for use on the farm. The International Harvester Company loaned a International Tractor 574, to Roseworthy which was upgraded to a 766, New Holland Supplied on Loan balers, a mower, loader, crop chopper, super spreader and a rake. There are some news clippings of the hand over of the International Tractor in 1978, Black and white photographs show the tractor in use at the college, and different shots of the hand over. Mr. Murray Heinrich of Angaston loaned his fully restored 1928 McCormack Deering Model 10/20 tractor to the College

This file holds the Sexual Harassment Policy of the College. There are requests for information on female staff and genre biased treatment of women. Under the Equal Opportunities Act the College was required by law to put in place a policy on sexual harassment on the handling and treatment of the persons involved. Feminist action working.

This file deals with freedom of information and its implantation and the effects this will have on the College resources. There is a questionnaire from the government on how it would effect organizations.

This file deals with the introduction of an international students Diploma of Agriculture. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations sponsor students to come to Roseworthy. There are details of Dryland Farming in Australia which has similar conditions to the Middle East and North Africa.

This file deals with the miss understanding about the merger of the Departments of Viticulture and Horticulture.

There is a copy of Australian Agricultural Council Extension Fellowship 1975 Report by R H Frew. The ABC advised that Landline would be telecasting Ten Years to Yield which was mainly filmed at Roseworthy. The file moves to extension courses held at Roseworthy.

This proposal for the Horse Husbandry Course came from the Northern Territory Rural College to offer 15 places to students annual at Katherine for the first year then transferring to Roseworthy to complete the course.

The Master of Agriculture in Pest Management proposed by Adelaide University. They have out lined the entry requirements and the subjects covered. The last correspondence on file states there was a detail in offering the course.

The awards for sporting achievement and trophies such as the Captains Sheild, Old Scholars Trophy, Senator Condor Laucke Trophy. There is also a suggestion that full-time students be required to play football.

This file holds the arrangement in relation to the Football Club the Pink Panthers. These include liquor licenses, the grand final congest held at Roseworthy. There is some concern expressed by Gawler Football Club that Students at Roseworthy are playing for other team and should be required to only play for Roseworthy. The Bridging Course for students with Diplomas in Applied Agriculture could upgrade there Diploma to a degree in Applied Agriculture. There is also an enquiry from Roseworthy Old Collegians Association regarding member to up grade their Diplomas.

There are two memos on file related to the Afghanistan Special Training Course which referees to a report written by Mr. Iain Grierson, which is not on file. There is also a proposal for a Dryland Farming course from J C Skull from Adelaide College of TAFE.

This file has the details of the Roseworthy College fees for the courses offered to International Students. Approval had to be sort from the Department of Employment, Education and Training. In 1988 two courses offered were Bachelor of Applied Science in Agriculture and Associate Diploma in Agriculture (Horse Husbandry and Management). There is a list of all the courses offered by universities and colleges in Australia. By the end of 1988 there are ten courses with agreed full fees which were offered to international students at Roseworthy.

This file details the grant made to Roseworthy by the Freedom From Hunger of $35,000 for salaries in teaching f students for a Diploma in International Agriculture which was introduced in 1976. The course covered Dry land Farming. The students cost were meet by Freedom From Hunger. The students came from the Near East and North Africa. The scheme ended with a grant for 1978.

This file details the financial arrangements for students sponsored through the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations and Australian Development Assistance Bureau with Roseworthy Agricultural College. The Australian Development Assistance Bureau was based in Rome and was visited by the Principle of the College.

This submission to the Marginal Lands Investigator Group was prepare by a working Group established from the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Natural Recourses. The Marginal Land Investigator Group was look at relating size of land holdings in marginal agricultural areas of South Australia. The Submission Recommends that land size in it self is a clumsy way of achieving the goal of management of these areas, rather suggest that the use of these marginal lands should be controlled.

Roseworthy was included in a meeting in Canberra with the International Development Program. There was a visit to the College by an Indonesia delegation prior to two students being placed at the College. The Mt Clarence is situated 33 miles North West of Coober Pedy. The Property was used for sheep husbandry teaching for it's arid zone and the possibilities for management of dryland farming. There are a series of slides of the property. Reports were made on it's possibilities for teaching in agriculture, management, applied science, and financial considerations. The Department of Lands was offering the land to the College. The property held photographs back to the 1930 of the vegetation covering the property. There was a great deal of uncertainty about the continuance of the Land Board, financial concerns, staffing, support from across the College and the matter was deferred a number of times. The Lease was taken up by Mrs. and Mr. Brockoff. There are State Government maps of the property.

The Department of Education, Employment and Training in 1989 offered $11,000 for a stay-in-school project. Roseworthy hosted a group of 18 students from Kangaroo Island in years 10 and 11 to encourage them to stay on. They also hosted a group from Ceduna. There are some evaluation reports from other College around Australia who had participated in the programme.

Roseworthy Initiatives to promote equity and computer education was to employ a typist for 6 months the furniture and equipment for the job cost as much as her salary. The other $60,000 was to be spent on computers. There were restrictions on the purchase of furniture under the terms of reference for the proportion of equity and computer education. In 1986 the three proposed programme were Remedial CAL Package Improved Rural Access and improved Aboriginal access to courses. There is a copy of the Initiatives In Advanced Education to Increased Participation and Equity, Advanced Education Council Working Party.

The practical side of the farm work needed to be incorporated into the course structure.

This file has a application from R B Tuncks for Clover Harvester Front Development and D M Caldecot and R B Tuncks Utilizing Piggery Effluent, to the Commonwealth Council for Rural Research and Extension. This was followed by a letter from the Commonwealth Council for Rural Research and Extension that they would find it difficult to fund new projects due to cost cuts and the setting up of a review committee on all research projects funded by them. The Roseworthy College provided a submission to the Commonwealth Council for Rural Research and Extension Review.

This file has an application from R B Tuncks The Disposal Of Agricultural Effluent By Anaerobic Digestion Producing Methane made to the Swine Compenssation Fund Advisory Committee Application for Funds to Finance Pig Projects. This project was not accepted.

This file has papers from the Family Planning Association regarding the intake of female students and the need for education about family planning in line with other Colleges of Advanced Education. In 1984 the College put in place a student counseling service.

This file has a draft of the proposal for a new or revised course Associate Diploma in Agriculture. The minutes of the meeting Associate Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Production Option Development Committee for 26 July 1979, this was not the first meeting. The course was accredited in 1980.

This file documents the financial position of the College Farm. There are details of costs and profits for the farm including staff costs and farm production. This file details a period where the farm was operating at a loss and this was turned around.

These orders are for a variety of needs of the College from trailers to cash books but together they give you a good idea of what was happening at the College through this period.

It then went to opening stocks, receivables to Sub Total, Deduct sales, seeding, internals transfers, Total Disposals and Closing Stock. Intersectional transfers for the month, commodity and unit amount are recorded and who they are transferred to are listed as farm, Dorset sheep, Crossbred sheep, Merino sheep, beef cattle, dairy, dairy factory, piggery, poultry, plant breeder, vineyard, orchard and garden, cellars, workshop, store, Animal Production Laboratory, Chemical Laboratory, farm engineering, College. The total of the transfer was then recorded

This file deals with the experiments with the sheep flock at Roseworthy. There is a brief history of the work done on sheep breeding experiments undertaken from 1948 to 1974, which Director D Williams uses to call for an assessment of these experiments. There is a copy of the resulting report titled Roseworthy Agricultural College Sheep-Breeding Experiments Report of Assessment Committee 7-11 July 1975.

Carter Department of Angnomy Waite Agricultural Research Institute 'First Workshop for the National Task Force Leaders - Lahore - Peshawar - Karachi, Pakistan March 16-27 March 1975. A Booklet Notes Prepared for the visit of the project officers from the FAO/UNDP Regional Projects in Field Food Crops in the Near East and North Africa 1975. In October 1975 the Roseworthy Council approved the proposed course Graduate Diploma in Agriculture - International.

This file has a copy of Retaining Native Vegetation: Response to the Heritage Agreement Scheme by N.M. Smith and R.A. Craig, Smith was a former student and Craig worked in the Department of Extension and Education at Roseworthy. There is a submission to the National Soil Conservation Program - National Component for funding for Russell Craig's project, Australian landlords' attitudes to vegetation and soil conservation; A baseline survey of landholders' attitudes to soil conservation, in particular to the role of vegetation retention and clearance in soil conservation.

This file has an application to the Department of Primary Industry for a research projects The Universal Soil Loss Equation. The internal memo of 1989 suggests that a computer package USLE (The Universal Soil Loss Equation?) was demonstrated at the Royal Agricultural Society Provision in Sydney. There is however no indication on this file that any funding was granted.

This file has a contract with D.R. Harvey and Associates for the Preparation of A Whole Of Farm Plan For The Roseworthy Agricultural College Farms with Consultants Iain Grierson, Hugh Reimers, Megan Lewis, Peter Houston Malcolm Bartholomaeus. There is a report on file date June 1989.

This file holds an application for funding with the National Energy Research Development and Demonstration Council by P.W. Rowland for Pelletizing of Cereal Waste for Soil Fuel Production. This application was unsuccessful. The application for Hydrocarbon Yeilding Plants (semi- arid plantations) was successful in obtaining a grant from South Australian Government Energy Research Grants. There is no final report on file.

This file holds the arrangements for the Gawler Three Day Event as Roseworthy was the base for many of the Competitors and for some of the horses. There are some newsclips and a copy of The Bunyip. A Copy of the Visit to South Australia by His Royal Highness the Duke Of Edinburgh 20th May 1986 to 26 May 1986. Rosworthy Newsletter put out a special edition No.13 21 may 1986 which is held here.

This file holds an application by Dr. Katherine V. Cooper Rural Credits Development Fund of The Reserve Bank of Australia, for Plant Breeding: The Development of Triticale Cultivars for Marginal Environments. Dr Cooper worked at Waite Research Institute but Roseworthy was supporting her application and was prepare if she had been successful accomodation to carry out the research.
