Description

This series reflects the history of the Department of Women's Studies, which evolved from the Men and Women In Society course at the College of Advanced Education (CAE) Salisbury campus in 1973. The course was later transferred to the city campus of the CAE and became the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Women Studies). In 1991 the University of Adelaide amalgamated with the CAE and was linked to the Research Centre for Women's Studies. The Women's Studies Department was established in 1992, offering internal and external undergraduate majors for the Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma and Masters of Arts in Women's Studies programs. In 1996 the Graduate Diploma was discontinued. The Department merged with Labour Studies to become the Department of Social Inquiry in 1998/1999, and later became Gender, Work and Labour Studies.

The records include a collection of photographs and slides of staff and students, course guides, some handbooks and tapes of external courses. There are also records relating to the opening of Women's Studies and a lecture given by the renowned feminist journalist and activist, Susan Brownmiller.
