Description

The Social Justice Research Foundation Inc was jointly established by the Centre for Labour Studies of the University of Adelaide, the South Australian Council of Social Service and the Trades and Labor Council of South Australia, May 1993. The aim was to contribute to and analyse current government policy, thus assisting in the development of alternative social and economic policies. The foundation is managed by the Co-ordinating Committee, with one representative each from the Centre for Labour Studies of the University of Adelaide, the South Australian Council of Social Service and the Trades and Labor Council of South Australian. Don Dunstan was invited to be a visiting Fellow to the Centre for Labour Studies in 1994, which he accepted. When he became ill in 1998 he was asked if they could rename the Foundation after him, to which he agreed. The foundation has regular lectures by prominent people, and undertakes research on social justice issues. In 2007 the Lowitja O'Donoghue Oration was introduced with Lowitja delivering the first oration. Phillip Adams is the Patron of the Foundation in 2007. By 2004 the foundation was supported by the State Government, University of Adelaide and Flinders University, with Jarvis Marketing and Peter Lane Print Group as the Major stake holders.
